Thread is for Silver Linings, Upsides, Good Signs and Positive Thoughts

We all know that things are at a pretty dire state right now, so let's talk about some things that aren't so worrying.

1. Future prospects are looking alright

Under 22 on the list

Motlop
White
O.Hollands
Lemmey
White
Binns
Cowan
O'Keefe
Lord
Moir
Wilson
Carroll
Smith
O'Farrell
Charleston
B. Camporeale
L. Camporeale

NGA's

Ison
Gresham
Clark

F/S's

Dean
Walker

2. Lower Expectations

After this debacle of a season, next year the media scrutiny will be lessened. The framing won't be about Carlton underperforming every week.

3. Positional changes

JSOS back and Kemp forward have worked this year. In the twos Moir into the centre bounce has revitalized him. Williams with bursts on ball looks impactful.

4. New Direction imminent.

Even if the club keeps Voss, there is no way that we will be keeping this gameplan. Whatever that means for next year, we will be seeing a change in plan and direction.

5. AFL is more even than ever.

I said this before the game, but all AFL clubs are closer in ability than before. That means that while the slide out of contention is always a risk, the rise to the top is always within reach. A quick rebound is not out of the question at all.

I think it is harder to coach the defensive side of the game than the offensive side. Whoever is the coach will have a side which is drilled in defending (even if they don’t always get it right).

I think you're right, there is a broader perspective to take here.

Have we utterly wasted a golden generation of Weitering, Cripps, McKay and Curnow - yes.

Does that mean we need to wait for another golden generation to have a shot? No.

We need to start focussing on improving the side every year. Winning every game possible. Playing our best 22 every single week. What got us here was postponing effort, success and competitiveness for the dream of it all coming together at some point in the future. The rebuild revilement.

Success will not come this year. It may not come while the golden generation are here. But if we focus on winning. Focus on improving the side, they may rebirth a competitive Carlton side that the likes of:

Walsh, Cerra, Hollands, Cowan, Lord, Jagga, Campos, Dean, Walker etc are a part of.

And yes that list sounds thin in abstract, but in this day and age its so simple to bring in 26-28 year olds in their prime. Who knows who will be pulling on the Navy Blue in 3 years time.

We just need to be competitive. We need to bleed for the Jumper every single game moving forward.

Great post. For me the positive is that we can't pretend everything is okay, so we have no choice for a new direction. Similar feel to the last few months of the Malthouse era. Let's hope we learn from our mistakes.

I had a call from a hawthorn supporting mate earlier today and after he listened to me grumble and moan about last night he reminded me that it was just under two years ago we sat together at the G and Hawthorn were 0.5 at half time against us and look at how quickly things have changed.

It can turn back our way quickly if we want to work hard at it and be open to new ideas and having a crack.

Nope. We are a big club, therefore we are always clickbait (and whatever other negative mediums there are).

4. New Direction imminent.

I don't think the gameplan is that bad apart from the backwards kicking out of defence. Like literally everyone says - bad kicking is bad football. WE need an injection of traditional football skills, not re-invented basketballers or track and field turned AFL Players. Someone like Weddle is of diabolical need in our backline. Attacking Line-breaker with footskills.

5. AFL is more even than ever.

I feel that there are already too many run & gun type teams and we are a point of difference. If our disposal wasn't so poor and we didn't continually turn the ball over inside F50 or Spend 3/4 of the time trying to get it out of D50 with sideways/backwards passes, we'd probably be in the top 4.

A healthy thread. I am sick of armchair heroes wanting to burn everything down.
Changes are needed but we don't need to start to from zero.
a) I would like to see some more football focused people on the Board.
B) New and competent GM of football.
C) Unfortunately it's too late for MV. He has no credibility. Change needed. New coach to drive review of assistants if possible.
D) List review. Address issues like lack of skills and pace. Small forward issue. Don't pay huge money for TDK if Saints want to throw.large sums at him, take the compensation pick.
Our list has holes but also lots of quality if deployed the right way.

In football speak the above is pretty much starting from zero, changes in every football aspect of the club.

Well, I appreciate changing head of football and coach is major change, but I am not saying sack the whole Board and blow up the list like many demand.

2015 we were basically an expansion club replacing every player except Cripps Doc and Byrne with zero concessions or league assistance - in fact AFL ignoring and eventually scrapping it's own rules to avoid helping us.

This time around, we have quality on the list and F/S in the pipeline to bring in and develop a bunch of top end kids over the next 2 yrs and 'rebuild on the run'

And this is why the slash and burn and destroy can **** right off-not doing that again because we don’t need to

A lot of criticism of the club should also be extended to us as supporters- we are a toxic bunch and that isn’t healthy for anyone

absolutely ridiculous how many articles are written about us- no other team would garner this much “interest”

And it’s never as dark as at seems
