Bring back Gladiators!

Loved watching contestants at the end attempting to go up the escalator but failing and kept going backwards :D

Tony has a show on Sunday Night/ Monday mornings and Thursday/Friday at midnight called the Gladiators of Sport. They play the theme song to Gladiators on it. Without doubt this is the best program on SEN.

I've also heard but this would have to be confirmed by someone in the know, that the reason Gladiators was cancelled was that most of the Gladiators were on Steriods and other drugs due to the hectic tv schedule.

My old primary school had a ramp that was just like the travellator, only it didn't move BUT it was that steep enough that if you didn't run all the way up, you'd tumble back down..... good times :thumbsu:

Thats a shame, i remember years ago hearing that they couldn't get the funding required to keep using the arena that they filmed the show in. Two of the Gladiators (Delta & someone else my memory is sketchy atm) appeared on the Midday show on 9, trying to keep publicity for the show going in the hope that 9 might pick it up (after 7 axed it). Apparantly Delta had a side job at a dental surgery :P

Vulcan wrestles now.

It would be good if they toned down the cheesiness of the original. Unfortunately with the way TV is now they'll fill it with celebrities and make viewers vote via SMS as to who stays and who goes.

If it leads to Big Brother alums getting mooshed to paste I might just chance my stance on that one.

The best part about Gladiators for me was the Fast Forward takeoff. No one was mightier than Thong!

That'd be pretty sweet.

How bad would Jaime be at Gladiators?

Does anyone miss Vulcan, Cheetah, Commando (but he did wear underwear) and friends?

What about the travellator? and how sweet was the international Gladiators travellator? how quick was that?

Who were the other gladiators? What were some of the games? And who else wants to see Mike Whitney back where he belongs refereeing Gladiators?

Some of the games I remember,

the one where they had the sticks and fought with the Gladiator on the ledges, the monkey bars where you had to swing across to the other side, the pyramid where you had to run up it past the gladiator, the ball game where you had to get as many balls into the buckets past the gladiators....

What else was there?

I missed this thread. :thumbsd:

Yes, most definitely bring back Gladiators!!

One of my favourite memories of Gladiators was counting down each event when John Alexander did, only real loudly, too. THREE-TWO-ONE!! I was always getting told off by Mum for that. :D :D :D

Mike Whitney wasn't as loud in his counting down; a bit of a shame.

And who could forget when the Wolfman throwing his helmet at the Aussie challenger in the "Battle for the Ashes" series after he fell off in Hang Tough! :D

Like a true stats man, I used to keep track of the details of the shows. ;)
I've still got some of those books, and from them, these are some of the events:

Hang Tough
Joust
Gauntlet
Pyramid
Powerball
Suspension Bridge
Swingshot
The Wall

Similarly, we had a playground setting with a slide attached to it, allowing us to create our own eliminator complete with travellator finale. It would've been quite weird to see grade 6 kids dominating the playground while the preps had to find some other way to amuse themselves at lunchtime.

Good stuff :thumbsu:

Now,

Hang Tough, was swinging across from ledge to the other getting past the gladiator.

Joust, was that the thing with the sticks where they hit each other and the challenger had to stay on the ledge?

The wall, that was where you had to climb up the wall and get away from the gladiator who started climbing a short time after.

Swingshot?

Suspension bridge? Didn't they have to run across a bridge while the gladiators tried to hit them?

Powerball, they had to get balls into buckets as the gladiators tried to stop them.

Pyramid, they had to run up the pyramid past the gladiator.

Gauntlet? I'm not sure.

To be honest, I can't remember swingshot either; that's what I had written down.

Pyramid had both challengers go up at the same time, there were three gladiators trying to stop them.

Pyramid was the greatest. You could see the steroids really kick in with some of the gladiators when they'd lauch themselves at the challenger from 4 levels higher. I'd need 15 minutes and a line of speed to get up that pyramid deal one its own, let alone having a roided maniac spear himself at you.

Kimberley Joseph. Yum!

Joust was with the horses. Duel was on the big platforms.

What was the one with the big metal balls that you had to run inside of to get moving?

When Milhouse's mum goes out with a Gladiator in the Simpsons, he rocks up to her house in one.

Haha we did the same thing in primary school. One of our "events" was the gauntlet where we had to run between 2 BRICK WALLS lol and trying to squeez past some kids. Oh them the days.:D

Swingshot?

Swingshot was where it was 2 on 2, and they had to jump from a platform, bounce off the floor, and grab a ball on a little pole thingy. Challengers and Gladiators were attached by bungy cords. The balls were attached to the pole with velcro. I believe a white ball was 1 point, red was 2 and blue was 3, although I may have stuffed up the colours.
