Why not? If we had scored 6 more goals we would have won. I think we botched a lot more than 6 opportunities through sloppy entries. Taking away their 2 umpire gift-wrapped goals we only needed 4 more goals. Ppl say you can't beat Dawks in a shoot-out, I say why not? With our current team and set-ups I think that's the only way we can beat them.

Any coach will tell you defense wins premierships.. you can't let hawks kick well over 100 points and expect to beat them anymore than once in a blue moon

When people look at krakouer or didak they look at their offense and say wow look how good their offense is! what some armchair critics forget is that a hard gut busting chase in the forward pocket can save a goal down field, saving a goal is just as important as kicking a goal.

Didak and Krakouer's defense is not up to scratch, bucks can see that, that's why they aren't in the team. We need players who work hard both ways to win a premiership, we can't fill up the team with guys like dywer seedsmen krakouer didak elliot ect and expect our defense to hold come September.

Half of me says i would love to see him play again the other half says we are just stopping a kid from getting a game for a bloke who probably won't play next year

So who are our forwards who can run both ways?

Okay mate.. so you are saying Didak is currently as good as he was in 2010? Or slightly below that?

Let's get real and stop looking at didak through rose colored glasses
Make up your mind Buddy!
You start off with posting about defensive pressure, then suddenly pull out the "too old no longer up to it" card. You are all over the shop.
I wonder what your next BS post will be?

Um...

wut...

Defensive pressure lacking is related to players slowing down with age... seriously confusing post

but i guess i'm saying Didak is no longer a superstar so you should bash me

Dids has always been a defensive liability we all know that. But he is still one of the best kicks at the club and his pinpoint disposal skills and the x factor he provides has a place in the side. Agree that he's no longer at vintage 2010 level but he still requires a good defender to play on him.

If its a contest between didak and blair, its dids easily. Better user of the ball, creates far more, can read it off a pack and makes our forward line look dangerous.

The only thing blair does better than didak is tackle and pressure acts.

If didak can get the ball 15-20 times a day i would take that in a heartbeat. We need x factor in our forward line, he provides that in bucket loads

I agree, 34 touches and 1.4 (I think?) in the VFL suggests that he's back in the kind of form which could be very useful to the senior side, especially if it can be carried into September...

As everyone who has any involvement in match committee always says, if you perform you will get picked.
1.5 actually mate.. just imagine had it been 5.1, would've been his best match in the past 2 years.

Agreed that he should come back in, and I really really hope he can get back to his 2010 form for next year.. It would definitely be a good thing for him to end his career on his own terms

I don't see a reason not to give him another go.

He's been a great player for the club. He could really lift the side if he came in with some form. However, I think that TD might be right about Kennedy being in before Didak, which would be a mistake if we're missing Elliot for finals games.

For a small forward role, Didak is miles in front of Kennedy. For an inside mid role, Kennedy is miles in front of Didak. Kennedy's better games have been when he is played in the midfield.

If it is to replace Elliott's spot on the ground, it is a no contest between Dids and Kennedy. The real competition may come from Martin.

A tackle in our F50 doesn't save a goal. It saves a disposal. A number of perfect disposals are required across the entire length of the field before the opposition kicks a goal from a missed tackle in the F50. So it only contributes a VERY small amount to a goal benefit for us. On the other hand, a goal from them is a full goal. And they tend to set up goals as well.

It is like picking someone for their one percenters instead of picking someone for their 99 percenters.

P.S The defensive pressure in the forward line is less about saving goals upfield and more about keeping the ball in our forwardline and therefore creating goal opportunities for us.

Blair Sidebottom goldsack.. guys like that
Sidebottom has hardly played forward line this season. Blair runs hard defensively but he gives about as much to our attack as Didak gives to our defence. He has contributed nothing other than defensive pressure and tackles all season.

Giving Didak a game this week doesn't lock him in for finals. What it does do is give him a ton of incentive to do the 1 percenters that he has failed to do in the best; and if he doesn't then he know he'll be dropped. It would be stupid not to give him the opportunity imo, he also deserves the chance for what he has contributed to the club over the last decade.

+1, and I'd go as far to argue that our emphasis on defending at the front is one of the reasons why we have struggled against Hawthorn and to a lessor extent Sydney the last couple of seasons. We have way to many players committed to our forward press to allow them to move the ball out of our forward half so easily, and of course when they do they score so easily because they have players like Franklin, Roughhead, gunston, Rioli, Bruest running into the space which is almost impossible to defend 1v1. The way we defend is always going to run into difficulty against the higher skilled sides on a ground as big as the MCG - it's just too difficult to defend from the front with that amount of space behind imo. Especially when our midfielders can be exposed running the other way
