For me, it's Lennon streets ahead of Paul.
Paul had his moments, but John was in another league.

Sort of GA Snr and Billy Brownless ;)
I see J as a Phil Carman
I see P as a Craig Bradley, but I like your analogy

I doubt that too many bridges would have been burnt. For one thing Cookie is too professional to hold a grudge. The other thing was that it wasn't an equivalent role. Macca wanted to be a senior coach at some point, but taking on the development program would have killed that ambition. Going to Essendon was a positive career step for him that eventually landed him the senior job at the doggies.

However his days as senior coach are now behind him, so a role like development coach probably would suit him, and us, quite well.
He is apparently fantastic as a teacher so getting him back in a development role could be ideal

Let him look after the accadamy program the kids are going through

I wonder how the development of Geelong's kittens would have been over the last few years if BMac had still been at GFC? Further ahead, behind or much the same?

It does stand out McCartney was trying to force his senior players to tow the line as leaders. This is what we had and what every club needs. It didn't work.

Neeld probably was trying the same thing.

This is why tanking and ditching senior players is risky.

?Past history now, and some on this board didn't rate his teaching either- not me, he was a couple of years behind me at school.

I can't really remember to be honest, I've just heard him reffered to as a great teacher of football
Had success with us before so couldn't hurt.

And I'd also really like to see Bomber back but as a director of coaching type role.... He wouldn't have any interest given he wants to be a senior coach again but I just think he would be great in that role

I'd like to see him back, i mean when you think of it, we have not really utilised many of the recently retired champions of the most successful era Geelong's ever had, and McCartney was here for the bulk of our golden era, having been there from it's foundation from the early 2000's.

Would be nice to maybe acquire one or two of the past players who were at the Dogs as well in a coaching capacity, certainly one glaring example is our clearance work which has reduced in effectiveness significantly in the last few years. Granted that may just be a function of losing Ottens, Corey and Ling among some, but it's an area we need to address. There's no question McCartney's methods with younger players work given proper application, it may be the Dogs players just weren't able to see through the tough love in order to make the next step.

In which case, his exposed form is appalling
