Santini/Fox was the beginning of the end for a once great show. The move from the self contained 1/2 hour episodes killed it - turned into a soapie.

The great days were the Burnside/Ted Roach/Tosh Lyons/Mike Dashwood/Viv Martello/Alastair Gregg etc ones.
Absolutely that was what killed it. I enjoyed the Santini epsiodes but it went downhill immediately after. The other thing that killed it was the Polly/Dave/George romantic drama.

It used to be the one show I couldn't miss - now I haven't seen it in 2 years. Totally missed all the stuff with Gabriel Kent etc

Oh and to repeat my earlier comment - bring back Rod Skase! Flawed and funny and so hot :)

I agree with your first paragraph but I reckon the show really peaked when Deakin was the DI. The writers couldnt be lazy and just expect Burnside's charisma to pull the show through so they came up with some amazing scripts. That's not to say it wasnt a great show with Burnside.

I remeber that episode. They had to pretend that he was a thief who'd stolen some booze instead of admitting to the assistant commisionar it was for the christmas booze up. The AC knew what was going on all the time.

I met "Duncan" at a book signing on my birthday one year, I was so into the Bill at that stage I turned into this giant blubbering mess!

OK, now Mickey's back; bring back Duncan Lennox!
And bring back realistic storylines with real cops - that means more Reg Hollis.
(Or Amber and Honey nude scenes, I'll settle for that. No Duncan and Reg nude scenes though.)

I am over in England at the moment and Mickey Webb has been involved in some story lines not so long ago.

Its a bit hard to keep up with everything that has happened but Old School Bill was definately better.
