I am currently home from work due to a leg injury but still wanted to be productive so I have gone ahead and updated the "Bringing them home!" list and added the 2017 draft. If there are any mistakes or players I have missed please let me know.
Thank you, it's tedious stuff.

I think this thread and it's emphasis should be changed to bring them to Freo - if they are good and "want" to come to WA, who cares if they are from WA originally or not?

The person who tracks whether they are out of contract or not cares. WA compared to the whole AFL is a whole new level of work.

Given our last draft I don't think we need him...He'd be nice but at this stage I'd rather try and get Grainger-Barrass or O'Driscoll and then get our academy kids in.

Given our list I think Grainger-Barrass should be first choice for us at this stage

First round pick = best available talent. List needs come in later in the draft imo. For example, if another ‘Young’ was available at our first pick next year, we take him.

I think a Tasmanian AFL team and any AA for Alex Pearce between now and then means we will lose him for nothing to a massive AFL money deal.

Absolute best case would be Pearce and Dixon smashing it, AA CHB and 50 to 60 goals a year out if Dixon. The AFL would make the rules for the new Tasmanian side to let them pinch both from us.

You don't draft depth with top 10 (likely) picks and none of them are old enough to be drafting replacements.
Young talls take time to develop. Getting in Denver Barass seems to me a very smart pick.

The team up the road seem to have good tall depth with Brander, Allen etc and when Darling and Kennedy they have long term replacements.

Not sure how they can’t see a talent proving depth in the short term and replacement in the medium to long term.

Hamling will be 28 and Denver can develop for 4 years. At 32 Hamling can retire and Denver can take over.

All drafts go in blocks of players.

If a need is a block of roughly the same talent, you go for the need.

I do agree that you pick the no brainer pick and don’t get cute.

Well I disagree, each to their own.

Got some reliable news a week or so ago that a highish profile WA player has agreed to join the club next year and has already told his club. The cost of the player will be a first round pick. I have also been told it won’t be SPP as he has committed to a high profile east coast club.

In terms of where our list is at, we should be looking for a significant period of time where we are in the for finals. Mature (23-29 year olds), durable and difference makers is what we need.

We have grabbed plenty of mid range B players such as Bewley, Acres and Aish. Hoping to find someone better.

In terms of need, our rucks still trouble me. I like the somewhat injury prone Darcy/Lobb combo, and Meek is an OK developing option. But I will keep watching English and how he progresses.

In the barren wasteland that is the AFL off season, I'd like to talk about this a lot more...
