We need depth. Need more than a best 22, especially given our glorious run with injuries. More like a best 30. If he doesn't cost too much, grab him. Same for Lobb. Maybe he doesn't look to play with heart because he know he's playing for a soulless franchise. Maybe being a part of Fremantle's first flag would be a better story.

Not without a premiership
3 yrs of contending for no grannies........... reckon a few could be reassessing whether they want to earn unders in a unsuccessful super team or jump ship and take the cash while its there. The next contract for Kelly/Cogs/Sheil/Whitfield/Scully is their "BIG ONE". All these guys can get "Lachie Neale Money"

There would be a few looking at Treleor and Hoskin Elliott this weekend asking if they had the right idea........

Conca's clanger rate at Richmond would put him among the very worst for us. It's not going to get better playing for us.

I agree on the depth argument but we don't have a good recent record, improving marginal players from other clubs.

Would prob rather Sheridan in than conca and that’s saying a lot from my point of view. Putting a multi year deal on the table to a depth player that gets injured all the time is a waist of time. Let him get to the scrap heap then get him as a delisted free agent or something where he isn’t going to cost $$

He won't be depth, if playing to his ability, for a few years yet. For someone who was recruited as an inside mid, Sheridan has become almost completely an outside player. He has been unable to build the body strength for AFL footy, even after all these years. He also doesn't consistently do enough to warrant a completely outside role. Conca can help the likes of Fyfe and Blakely getting the hard ball. Fyfe has often said he would like help in that area so he can do more on the outside as well. If we lose Neale, we will need a Conca sort of player even more.

He is best 22 in the best team in the league, how is he not best 22 for us?

That's painful. If Neale does go then we can probably do one of this year's firsts and a future pick next year.
If we have two firsts for Neale and send our two firsts next season to GWS for Coniglio, Lobb and then extra picks this season it could work out.

We would still take two picks to the draft inside the top six this year.

How much improvement would he provide to our current side? The answer is basically none. He makes a negligible difference to Richmond (see 2017). They wouldn't care less if he leaves. Just replace him and shuffle the deck chairs with Butler, Ellis, Townshend, etc. Every top club through history has plenty of depth/fringe types. Conca is very much one of these, and Ross said we wouldn't be targeting such players.

Probably because he doesn't agree with your assessment

I like how the club handed McCarthy, Kersten & Matera Round 1 walk ins and games upon being traded in - yet people think Conca & Lobb wouldn't be given the same treatment. People are using surface evidence too much to evaluate a players' impact and balance in our B22 next year which could look completely different to the R23 2018 side. We still have people returning from injuries, players to push their case throughout an entire pre-season and JLT series - people don't want to factor in those players but immediately exclude trade ins?

I think he would improve our side as a midfield rotation who actually defends.

Seriously, look at the Geelong, on paper, the best midfield in the comp with no one coming close, however, they are all offensive players with only Selwood being a little more rounded. They run one way which is why they belt teams when its on their terms and struggle against the good sides.

Conca might not start in the middle but he'll go through there off the bench and be a better player than Giro or Crowden might ever be, and allow Cerra and AB to stay at the 65% game time for a couple more years.

We hacve absolutely * all best 22 depth through the midfield. Walters should not be there given we have almost no one with actual goal kicking nouse or sense bar him and Mundy should be used through there increasingly sparingly given what he added to our fwdline in the first half the year. If Neale leaves, our best 22 mids (not wings) are Fyfe, AB, Cerra, S Hill and Blakely. Thats not enough, you need 6-7 players going through the middle. Leave Walters and Mundy forward for 95% of the game and give us some actual structure and experience up front and rotate Conca through there.
