Brisbane Bears club song

This probably isnt it but this showed up in my YT feed this morning

That's the original song, not the one that replaced it which is the missing one.

There's a YT video out there with the song on it as part of a compilation history of the three Brisbane club songs. But don't get too excited - it's not exactly listenable (from about 2:25):

I'm not sure what the source is but I'd speculate that it's from a TV broadcast with the song in the background that they've tried to isolate.

EDIT: Video link fixed

Jason Akermanis was asked by Dom Fay if he would use the Bears song as his play after a goal song if he was playing now.... Aka said no way that was a terrible song, that is not verbatim but it was definitely not a complimentary comment.

Singing 'we're the very best team you've ever seen' while constantly sucking would taint a song for me too!

Well, they dared them to beat the bear!🐻

The clip of Brisbane Bears Will Live Forever likely came from the video I uploaded which was the post match celebrations and interviews which I clipped from a video of a 1996 game against North Melbourne

Hey guys, my YouTube channel is PGKing06, https://youtube.com/@pgking06

I collect local football songs and post them, but I also collect AFL songs, the Brisbane Bears will live forever song is a song that everyone has been trying to find for years and years, but no one ever has, there’s a centenary version of the song, however it’s short and not the official audio. I don’t use Big Footy, however I stumbled across this page while researching, and I am determined to find that song. People tell me that it’s been wiped completely off record, and that the club don’t have it. But it’s gotta be out there somewhere. It’s the rarest song in football, and we’re gonna find it. It will take some time and a lot of research and effort, but with help from the community we can find it.

I just rang the Brisbane Lions, The GABBA, SCG, MCG, and AFL. Brisbane and the GABBA had no idea what I was on about and the GABBA thinks that linking people to the centenary custom version I’ve posted on my channel solves the issue when all they’re doing is linking people to the wrong version. The SCG said that Brisbane would’ve taken the song on gameday to the ground and taken it after and probably wouldn’t have left a copy. The MCG said to contact a certain email address and request to pass my enquiry on to the Heritage department, which I’ve done. The AFL doesn’t have a general enquires contact line so I’ve had to email them as well asking about it also. I emailed the GABBA about 5 days ago and still no response. What is shocking and still amazes me is how Brisbane lost the track or destroyed it, it’s their club song, it’s history despite them being the lions now, or the Brisbane bears not “living forever”. It’s amazing how a club can just lose it like that, makes no sense to me. Someone has to have it. I will keep you updated as to whether I get a response. Thanks guys.

Sometimes I think that the club distances itself a bit too much from its pre-merger identities.

If you can get in contact with former Courier Mail football writer, Bears media department head and Qld footy historian Peter Blucher, he may have some clues worth following up. I met him last year and it only occurs to me now that I should have asked him about this when I had the opportunity.

I got a response back from Brisbane saying that they’ve sent this to their Melbourne-based office, who look after all things pre-merger. They will be in touch if there’s anything they can help with.

The AFL have said it has been passed onto their Media department who will respond if they can help with this request.

So this is definitely the one. The back story is that Wayne Britain was at the club, he couldn’t stand the original version and this is an adaptation of Windsor Zillmere’s club song at the time. It used to start with “If you are an Eagle boy, then sing along with me”

I tried to E-mail the MCG about the Bears song and the 1997 Crows song but for the Bears song, I was linked to the centenary version sung by Mike Brady and for the 1997 Crows song, I was linked to a now deleted YT video of the final siren of the 1997 Grand Final.
When I messaged The Gabba, they told me that the song was on a CD that the club would take to each game, give to the stadium staff so it could be played and after the game, the CD was returned to the club for use at the next game.
I may also try to enhance the audio from PGKing06's recent upload which is actually the audio I found but with most of the background noise and commentary removed.

The AFL sent me this:

But it’s not what we’re after

Damn. Finding this song is like trying to locate a needle in a haystack. I do wonder what game that clip came from since it's not the 1996 final against Carlton

Until someone brings out the wrong disc :D

I may have mentioned this a while back but it seems like this thread's getting some interest as of late so I thought I'd share what I believe is currently the best lead we have to finding the song.

In 1993, a set of CDs were released with re-recordings of the club songs by singer John R. Williams, and they seem somewhat rare as only 3 of them have made it onto Discogs. This version of Richmond's song is one of the only few that have made it onto YouTube. The timeframe roughly matches up with when the 'Brisbane Bears Will Live Forever' song likely started being used, but from the few snippets we have of the Bears song playing after games I'm 50/50 as to whether it sounds like the same singer.

Whether or not this is in fact the song we're looking for, it seems like most of the songs from this set haven't resurfaced online and would nevertheless be quite interesting to hear for the first time!
Also, for what it's worth it seems JR Williams is still active online and may be worth contacting

Have noticed throughout this thread some queries as to when the song was first used, so just to set the record straight: it was launched for the Round 10 1994 home game against North Melbourne (per the Bears 1994 Annual Report). It was written by a group of staff members, including Peter Blucher, as well as a Gold Coast-based member named Don Kelly. The lyrics were printed in the AR, too, if anyone is interested.

The Brisbane Bears Club Songs should be played when the Brisbane Lions wear the Brisbane Bears Kits in the Heritage Round.
Look, I didn’t want to rush into responding, so I waited the best part of 12 years, but I think this is a bad idea. I have really thought it through.

Let's fix that, shall we? :)

AFL Centenary Celebrations - Brisbane Bears Theme Song [Swing Version] - Mike Brady

This makes more sense when you watch the entire performance. As 10Dulkar noted, the AFL's Centenary Ball included a medley of all club songs, each performed in a different musical style by either Mike Brady and The Music Men or club luminaries such as Rex Hunt, Jim Stynes, Tony Liberatore, Sam Newman and Lou Richards.

Brisbane actually got off lightly with this Swing version. Fremantle got stuck with Country & Western and Tigers fans have to endure the Richmond Rap. Fitzroy's theme song isn't too bad, a Parisian Can-Can in keeping with its French origins.

AFL Centenary Celebrations - All Club Theme Songs

Anyway, its kinda-sorta the Bears theme song. Download here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/isxakr

Enjoy! :footy::):footy:

I tried to make this into the proper theme, I extracted the vocals and the music from the Casey Scorpions theme (same tune) (unfortunately didn't work too well)
