Does anyone see one of our big issues is not only scoring but able to really break the lines and score quickly. Seems to be the flavour of good teams the last 2-3 years is the ability to switch and kick goals or score quickly.

Doesn't even need to be a Cogs level player. With Mitchell back in O'Meara, Shiels, Worpel and Cousins will all start to look better. Anyone that can fill the talent gap we have between O'Meara and the rest of the mids at the moment would be very handy. Doesn't need to be top shelf, just able to contribute more than Worpel and Cousins can right now (which isn't to say they are terrible, just a lot of load on the shoulders of kids with very little experience). Even another Shiels level player would be useful at the minute.

I agree, Omeara is still working out ways to deal with the tag but a fit and firing Mitchell in there those blokes will walk 2inches taller, I am sold on Worpel has improved alot still fades out of games but that's okay. I am Not sold on Cousins or Howe, Cousins is improving but he is soft not electric or a great kick the jury out on them both.
I feel we need a classy player a Silk replacement to complement Mitch,Worps,Omeara would be perfect. Burgoyne looked 25last night and the young boys were tredding water.

Nice post. I'm not one bit sold on Cousins either. I like his effort, but I don't see him as a high upside player others do.

As for the added class, this was supposed to be Wingard.

Cousins is certainly the player who would currently make way if we get a decent mid during trade period. Howe would be concerned if he can't currently get a game in our current midfield.

As OnceKicked50 mentioned in his reply, Wingard could help provide some midfield class, but needs to be uninjured long enough to be able to build his fitness to allow that. Had a few 30+ possession games for Port last year. I know Clarko has said he's been recruited as a forward, but if he hits top form, a player like him getting 30+ on a regular basis would go a long way to upping our midfield class.

We got the perfect start jumping them 5 goals to zip but it still wasn't good enough, put a line through this season now it's done. Good sides simply don't give up 5 goal leads 3 times in the first half of the season.

Watching the Eagles on TV ......... Hawthorn circa 2015. Long direct running football. We used to do that??!!! Why not any more?
Spending most of the year thus far grinding the wins out too. I have a feeling they’ll then go bang come the business end like we did. I miss those times too.

I thought we should have played Brand. I know some on this board don't rate him but he'd have allowed us some freedom in defence. Wasn't where we were beaten but we were forced to push Ceglar/Pitto back to defend when they moved their ruck forward. McEvoy has defensive ability, Ceglar/Pitto not so much.

Possibly because since 2015, the Hawks have lost Lake, Gibson, Hill, Sam Mitchell, Rioli, Hodge, Lewis, Suckling, Duryea and Hale, with Birchall and Schoenmakers injured and Roughead not deserving a spot in the best 22 at the moment. We're a side in transition and Clarkson is focused on transitioning to a new successful era. He's done it twice already and I back him in to do it a third time.

Just got back from a nice weekend in Brisbane, 23C on Saturday, but that and a large amount of wine couldn't erase the bitter taste of the game.
It still stings.

1. There's always excessive "entertainment" before, during and after games in Brisbane, as though the footy doesn't really matter. We don't need to see people's dance moves, just get on with the damn game!

2. Even though we got a good jump on them, the game was pretty even. The Wingard injury and a couple of turnovers was all that stood between us and a win. The Footy Gods are against us this year. One player off the ground means rotations are stuffed and players are stuffed. We were really struggling physically in the last quarter, even though we fought until the end..

3. On the way back, we got talking to a club official: no names here. He said we were in transition, and that the new players coming in had not yet fully caught up with the Hawthorn system. Mistakes happen in that situation, sometimes irretrievable mistakes. He was confident they would gel, but it may take time, partly because the further injuries we have had has delayed everyone getting attuned.

4. He said if we had Mitchell in the middle, apart from what he brings, he is fully in the system and and has the ability to get others into the game. He was very confident that Mitchell back would mean that JOM could play as the explosive midfielder he was supposed to be.

And to the idiot bartender at the Casino: when someone orders a nip of Cognac and is paying $30 for the privilege, you don't serve it in a ******* shot glass, it needs a brandy balloon. Had to fight to just get just a wine glass.

Go Hawks!

I think this needs to be placed permantly somewhere for the next season as well. Clarkos gameplan bordered on bizarre at times in the early years of his tenure as well. I left many games thinking we should have won but we stuck with a game plan/system even though it cost 4 points a few times. I hope this is the case again. Just need a few more puzzle pieces.
