Buckley's disposal skills are not up to AFL standard that is why he was let go. We already have enough problems in this regard adn I would not want to import any more.

I don't agree Quigley, i have no issue with Buckley's ball drop and kicking technique, decision making and execution of skills is always going to be difficult when you are playing in a poor team.

The kid look's like what we need, he remind's me of notting but with more pace.

Geez, That's a bad example. He's pretty much a right footed Lukey Power, Accurate kick, good pace, reads the play well, smallish player, will most likely start out as a crumbing forward..... Luke Power mk II

No to Buckley or Maguire for me. I give the same reason's for Buckley as Quigley does, and I think Maguire is to slow and give's away to many free's because of it.
I would like Ball but as I stated previously only if Bartlett is not available. The kid look's like what we need, he remind's me of notting but with more pace.

tend to agree, Buckley & Maguire are similar types to many on our list already.

We should consider useing our first pick to draft a youngster to compliment our two goal kicking machines.
The Brown & fev show could be even more deadly with someone like a Allen Christensen who could slot into that sneeky, creative small forward roll and also be groomed for midfield. Troy Taylor also fits the mold.
Of course both could go before pick 27 but this the path I will be hoping the Lions tread.

And you've got to love the reactions from the Essendon supporters r.e. McPhee. Didn't hear McVeigh have a go at Mal Michael over his "lack of loyalty". Hippocrates. What goes around, comes around hey?

Oh yes...had a good giggle at the hypocrisy meself!

My 2 cents worth on the up coming draft is that I will be very disappointed if we use our first pick on a tall having traded Henderson away.

I would like to think that the decision to trade Henderson for Fev meant that Henderson was expendable due to the fact that we have enough depth in our KPP stocks.

Buckley is pretty quick and finds plenty of the footy. We're hardly blessed in either area. I agree with acuguy in terms of his kicking - the mechanics are reasonably solid, he just seemed to lose his head too often. Then, a missed target seemed to compound into more errors. Given that Voss turned Sherman from a headless chook into, well, a really damaging headless chook, I'd not be opposed to seeing what Voss could do with Buckley (sounds quite nice too!).

I don't think that logic necessarily flows. Hendo left because with the drafting of Fev he couldn't see a spot for himself in the seniors in the foreseeable future and he believed he was ready. A tall drafted now will obviously be ~2 years Hendo's junior, hence less impatient to play seniors. It seems talls traditionally take at least 3 years to develop, so that could well gel against the aging bodies of Browny and Fev.

Having said that, reportedly this draft is short of quality talls, so the argument may be moot, regardless.

Agree. Getting Fev also made our full forward position a little younger. Hendo's loss hurts but the list impact is minimised somewhat by replacing Bradshaw with Fev. It does (hopefully) buy us a couple more years to find a couple more tall prospects.

I didn't think we were so well off for tall forwards when we had Hendo and Cornelius waiting behind Braddy and Browny. Would have been quite happy under those circumstances to draft another tall forward again this year. Now, it seems the need is more urgent - we need to start the development process with another tall - and preferably two by the end of 2010, because good talls are hard to find.

Hey I haven't weighed into this to much (mainly because I dont know much about the draftees), I obviously have heard and seen whispers or whatever around and on here about who we may potentially take with our first pick.

I am a little over the whole Luke Ball saga I dont think he will make it to us anyway so I was wondering if someone could give me a list of small forwards in the draft, with 'some' potential who could be around our pick cause let's face it i think that is our biggest problem at the moment, who will score goals when it hits the ground..

Does the draft have any ready made small forwards to come straight in? I checked the list of delisted players and couldn't see any that struck out in that list who could play that role?? I could be wrong?..

I am pissed that Hooper was such a tool, he could've been handy especially now that we are crying out for someone to play his position

I think Quigley rates Trent Dennis-Lane from the WAFL as a good chance to get picked up. Around 21-23 years old, think he kicked a few goals in the WAFL this year

Bio: Quality medium forward who can play as both a crumbing small forward and in a lead-up role. Quick and evasive with great goal sense. Kicked 57 goals in WAFL this year including four in the grand final

Not a bad haul :thumbsu:

Ando's draft countdown - Brisbane Lions

"Do they go midfielders, given Simon Black and Luke Power are 30, or do they target young key-position players?

At 27 they are obviously in the hands of others. A player who may appeal is Gold Coast midfielder Josh Thomas, who knocked back the chance to join Gold Coast so he could play in the AFL next year.

He is a very clean and compact player." AFL talent development officer Kevin Sheehan

Bit of a nothing article.

FWIW Emma Quayle thinks Ball will get to the Pies:

I'm not convinced they (Essendon) will pick Ball. My gut feel is he'll make it to Collingwood in the end, but who knows.
