After the Collard fiasco, what penalty are we thinking?

I observe that football is a hard game. It is highly competitive, particularly at its higher levels.

It is commonplace that players can employ language from time to time which is racist, sexist or homophobic whilst on the field.

An ‘extremely remorseful’ Brisbane Lions draftee is being investigated by the AFL after an incident in the VFL on Saturday.
Brisbane Lions player Koby Evans is under investigation by the AFL for an alleged homophobic slur in Saturday’s VFL game against Coburg.
Evans, 18, is alleged to have made the comment to a Coburg opponent which was later brought to the attention of officials.

Seeing as it's his first offence and Collard got 2 for his second, I guess a fine will be appropriate.....

Beyond disappointing.

No excuses, take your right whack Koby and learn the lesson.

Should be at least 4 but no one has any bloody idea what to expect suspension-wise now after the appeals board muddied the waters so badly.

The rate that these issues are occurring and with the ever-increasing penalties, we'll be at public floggings by the end of 2027

Slippery-slope fallacy.

And if anything, the penalties are seemingly trending downwards after the appeals board farce.

Not sure how impressed I am that this is now 2 Eagles NGA products (Evans and Collard) and a trade-in (Graham) that have all done this in the span of a couple years. Very very disappointing. Got to wonder if it is a coincidence or not, if a pattern starts to emerge I'd hope the club can take a long hard look at themselves.

Worth noting that Koby is indigenous too, which is going to immediately expose what a problematic rod the appeals board has built for their own back with that troubling precedent.

Turn it up mate.

Whiteboard gate was a diversion for whatever is alleged here.

So the Lions arranged for an Essendon supporter to photograph and intentionally leak the whiteboard stuff to deflect and distract from a slur that wouldn't actually take place until a VFL match later that afternoon?

If so, I'm not even mad. I'm impressed at our ability to predict the future.

Although if we do have the Minority Report technology to predict slurs in advance, it would probably be easier to say "hey Koby, make sure you don't say ****** today" instead of concocting a vast cover up scandal for our own club involving supporters of other clubs.

I see they've gotten to you too. Who knows how deep this goes

They need to just make it 4 weeks for every incident. Cut and dry.

2nd offence should be the same. Clubs are going to be very pissed off if players keep getting 4 weeks so they will be doing everything to change their behavior but I think it might be harder for certain personality types. Butters has had 50K worth of fines but they don't keep upping his fines for wrestling etc. Not sure why this should be any different.
