Brisbane home final crap

for a start, what shits me most is the constant whinging of the brisbane fans here that they didnt get it, and if they get in the final it wont be played up in brisbane either. Deal with it. Brisbane have had more concessions than any other club around...they had zone selections up until 1995 (8 years after joining the comp). Plus they say "it was a perfect oppurtunity to parade the game of football up here". Well what the hell have you been doing the last 14 or 15 years since joining the competition?? What a ridiculous thing to say. Perfect oppurtunity my arse...a perfect oppurtunity would be to play it in townsville, or cairns, or mackay, or somewhere like that, not at the gabba. Leigh Matthews has to be the most pathetic person in football. Get over it Leigh, you get more concessions than any other damn club. Time to be on the dull side of things for a change

I think the Lions have every right to be upset, port have had everything handed to them on a platter in the ansett cup.
If the GF is between Brissie & Port it should be played at a neutral ground, definitely not footy park.

BULL SHIT. How the hell have port had everything on a platter?? Last year the crows played every lead up game at footy park...that is on a platter. So Brisbane played a game in Cairns and in New Zealand. Brisbane are the ones constantly whinging that they need to get the game out to the people up there...thats what they did...you cant have it both ways. Port won every lead up game, finished top of their league thing, and had EVERY right to play the semi final at home. If you say otherwise you are a complete and utter fool.

I 100% agree that if it is a brisbane port grand final, it should be played at a neutral ground...ie melbourne. That would be the smart thing to do

So what the frig is your problem then Macca?? What Matthews said was that there should be a system in place, where as a team like port would have gotten the semi.

The problem this time round was that as there was no system in place, the AFL cocked the whole thing up. He did not say that Brisbane deserved the final over Port. He didn't even say he was pissed that they weren't playing at the Gabba. He said he was pissed with the whole way the AFL handled it!

His suggested system would have seen Port have the semi anyway....just without the headache the AFL caused for the Lions, and the Gabba Trust.

Cripes - read the article properly - otherwise you will end up looking like 'a complete and utter fool'.

The Grand Final wouldn't have been played in Brisbane anyway as there is a Pura Cup match at the Gabba scheduled for the same time.

I concur with Danni's comments. Matthews is critising the AFL's handling of the scheduling and the lack of a clear formula as to who plays where. He stated..."We were told [by the AFL]after the game on Saturday night we'd be at Brisbane next week, but come Sunday that had all changed."

Personally I'm rapt that the Lions are finally playing in Melbourne... In any case, when it comes down to it, if the Lions are good enough they'll win anywhere whether that is in Wellington, Cairns, Brisbane, Melbourne or Adelaide which incidentally will be their schedule if they make the Grand Final) One place they do need to learn to win is in Melbourne.

Anyway the Ansett Cup is a reasonable indicator of early season form.... no more, no less. Nice if we win (money will be handy), but if we don't.....well bring on the real season.

Get Real Mantis, The players still had to go out there and play football. Port did end 14th at the end of last season so its not like we were a champion team playing a bunch of no hopers in our group like the Kangaroos did.

Also did you suggets back when Port had to play Hawthorn 2 years ago in the Ansett Cup GF at Waverley which by the way was Hawthorn's home ground that maybe that game should be on a netural ground, I would say you didn't. So just lose the small minded Victorian attitude because it's the AFL now not the VFL.

Tell me how there is no system?? The ansett draw was realised ages ago, and stated how the semis would be played. Is that too hard for you and mr matthews to understand? Do you think the afl made it up during the week did you?
