First time a pro tennis tournament will be on in Brisbane for years with the new Tennyson Tennis court centre.

I think its from the 2nd January to the 14th, first two days free and 10 dollar entry other days, I'll definetly be going to it :thumbsu:

While the courts look great, I'm still pissed they didn't rebuild the old Milton Tennis Courts.. they are in a fantastic location, 100m away from Suncorp Stadium and right near the city.. Tennysons in the middle of no where!

Dokic gets wildcard into Brisbane event

A rejuvenated Jelena Dokic has been rewarded for her good recent form with a wildcard to next month's Brisbane International.

Dokic, 25, won the Australian Open wildcard playoff last weekend after playing six matches in seven days at Melbourne Park.

The former world No.4 joins fellow Australians Samantha Stosur and Jarmila Gojdosova in the women's field for the Brisbane tournament starting on January 4.

Dokic is currently ranked No.178 in the world after spending most of 2008 regaining form and fitness on the second tier circuit, winning three titles.

"Dokic showed she still has what it takes last week at the Australian Open playoff," Brisbane International tournament director Steve Ayles said on Tuesday.

"She is hitting the ball crisply and is regaining form and will be a real contender at the Brisbane International."
Great news! :thumbsu: She's finally starting to gain some momentum in her comeback, here's hoping she can get at least one win in Brisbane.

I love Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Dokic one for looks and the other for her tennis. Yes the looks is Ana and that accent. Anyway this tournament is going to be great and i think that Jelena Dokic will really thrive her and this might be where she starts string it all together. Here;s hoping anyway.

Brisbane is only a one week comp isn't it? Anyone know who is playing there from the ATP, any big names??

Djokovic is the biggest name, but there's a couple of recent Oz Open finalists in Tsonga and Baghdatis and also Gasquet confirmed starters. A lot of the other top names are in Qatar.

Its good of Djoko and Ivanivic to play the ATP events in Australia insted of going to Asia where the prize money is a little bit bigger

Monica Wejnert and Isabella Holland have been given wildcards which is a great move. I think this tournament is going to be a really good one. A new city, a new venue and both men and women will give it a real buzz and its good for tennis in Qld, in particular Brisbane. Cannot wait til the summer of tennis starts.

That's a good quartet, with Monfils there for good measure.

I'll pick Gasquet for the early-season confidence boost (assuming its best of 3 set matches!).

Good reward for the Gold Coast too, after producing Stosur and Tomic in recent times.
I'm glad they're there to represent. :thumbsu:

I'm really surprised to hear that Holland is only 16. Considering she's been on the scene for a couple of years now...

Jessica Moore hits rock bottom and justifies the organisers decision to not award her a wildcard by getting rolled 6-2 6-0 by Roberta Vinci in the first round of qualifying. Her career is going nowhere fast.

In other news Daniela Hantuchova holds a Koala

I kind of feel the same way about Moore, but these sorts of massacres happen all the time in Women's tennis. - Even to the top players. Still, there's better young talent in country coming through than Moore.

Seventh-seeded Russian Maria Kirilenko has withdrawn from the Brisbane International due to illness, postponing the start of the first round of the inaugural tournament.

World No. 29 Kirilenko was due to kick off the tournament with a centre court match against Queenslander Sam Stosur to christen the 5,500-seat Pat Rafter Arena.

But tournament organisers were told shortly before the scheduled start on Sunday morning the Russian had pulled out with an unconfirmed injury.

As the tournament was yet to officially start, the draw has been altered to see the next highest-ranked player not to be seeded, Japanese veteran Ai Sugiyama (No.31), take Kirilenko's position in the draw.
Well that sucks, would have been on TV too.

Hopefully coverage is still going for the Dokic game. Knowing 7 it'll be a great match and they'll cut to other programming. Look forward to seeing young Aussie Isabella Holland against one of my favourites Lucie Safarova.

I wish channel 7 would just die. They are an absolute disgrace. If I have to put up with their gay ads promoting some ch 7 show in between games during the Australian Open I will be turning off.

It is like watching the tennis from about 25 rows back, it is absolutely shocking. It is a new stadium, how can they get camera positioning wrong? It really ruins the viewing of the matches and gives you absolutely no sense of ball height or how heavy shots are. Terrible.

Its the Reebok Stadium of tennis cameras.

Bloody Ch7!!...Fair Dinkum!!...They should have their License taken off them.....Was watching Jelena Docik/Amelie Mauresmo, very exciting, next thing stupid Deal is on..Way to go 7!!..

Back to the tennis tho, thought Jelena played very well, the mistakes she made were to be expected I guess, after being out in the wilderness for so long....Hopefully she can take a lot from the game, gain some confidence and play like she once did..

Poor kid always looks so sad, my motherly instincts come out every time I see her........good luck to her anyway...we will be cheering for her in the Open :thumbsu:
