Bernard went down 6-4, 6-4 disappointingly, was a chance to win a match.

Lindhal went down to Berdych 6-2, 6-4, nothing surprising about that.

Ball was able to get a win over Zverev 7-5, 6-1. Might of come out this summer with a bit of form hopefully. Faces Roddick next, there won't be a rally in that one.

Absolute bullshit.. Hewitt has clearly affected Tomic's preparation with his racist bias towards him, Tomic is an absolute gun and a self centered jerk like Lleyton Hewitt could be affecting the start of a great career.

Ebden takes out Melzer 7-5 6-1:thumbsu::eek:
He's got Gasquet next and, after his performance today, you would think he might have a slight chance.

Insane result, I'm assuming Melzer played his bad tennis today like he can, I would doubt he would trouble Gasquet but disappointed it didn't get a TV court.

That result should put Ebden in the top 250. :thumbsu:

I actually thought Molik was okay today, Clijsters is just freakishly good.

Disappointed Querrey lost today, knew he would early in the second. Just couldn't get any rythem at all as Blake was just hitting a winner or error, more often than not a winner. Querrey didn't ever really get going, wasn't allowed to get his power game going.

Glad Baghdatis got up over Fish, he's looking quite impressive. Got a very enjoyable game to watch.

Ivanovic up a set but struggling in the second, lets hope she pulls through.

Just, 6-4 in the third. Least she's winning matches.

First time I've seen Ball, looks pretty solid; really taking it up to Roddick. Very good mobility for a big man and his serve is a huge weapon.

Having said that he just got demolished in the TB, lol.

You have a look at Ball and see he's got pretty much as good as serve as Guccione, better movement and groundies then Guccione, then you wonder why he doesn't have as many good results. His concentration is what really lets him down I've found in his matches, he has these patches of brilliance and then pure patches of ugly tennis, just like the TB and that volley he missed at 4-3 in the 2nd. It was a decent effort to save so many break points.

Ebden just lost to Gasquet 6-3, 6-4, great week for him though.

I have never seen clijsters lose a match to someone she should beat ever. Always demolishes lower ranked players, her consistency and placement is as good as anyone. its when she plays the top players she drops away a bit mentally. She should have won many grand slams before last yr's us open, She is playing as well as ever atm and i wouldnt be suprised that she dominates this yr.

Berdych absolutely destroyed Baghdatis! My tip for the tourny looking good.

Henin was pretty impressive last night, stepped it up when she needed to. Karatancheva was very good I felt, just couldn't take advantage of the early breaks she managed in both sets. She hit the ball better than any time during her comeback from the ban. Easily got the talent to be a top 20 player.

Ivanovic on court right now. :thumbsu:

Terrific match between Clijsters/Safarova.

Even though the first two sets were so lop-sided, they were still thoroughly enjoyable. 6-1 in the first to Kim, 6-0 in the second to Lucie. Lucie played an amazing second set, went into one of those periods where she doesn't miss anything and keeps hitting the lines, amazing to watch. The third was a decent battle with Clijsters getting a break at 3-2 but Safarova continued to hold forcing Clijsters to serve it out, which after a bit of trouble eventually did. Top match. :thumbsu: When you see Lucie play like that it's mystifying to think that she isn't a top 20, perhaps even higher, ranked player. Supreme talent.

Looking like a Clijsters/Henin final, wouldn't that be amazing!

Geez Ivanovic is a big sook. No need to get so frustrated over a couple of umpire over-rulings, and correct ones at that. Umpire doing a good job, Ivanovic just frustrated because she doesn't have it all her own way against Henin. Henin should win this match comfortably.

3 cheers to Channel 7 for going to replays of Deal or No Deal rather then showing the Clijsters Semi Final match in full.

Good to see CH 7 are no better at covering tennis then Nine are at covering Cricket.

Bring on open sporting rights for pay tv I say.

I'm still dumbfounded that a player can take a year (maybe longer) off playing professionally/competitively and in their first tournament back - make the finals beating a grand slam champion.

Thats women's tennis for you ....

I'm pretty sure shed played a few exhibitions before this tournament though.

Monfils was downright pathetic before. One of shittest efforts I've seen in pro tennis in the last couple of years. He's so frustrating!

I long for the day of no live sport on free-to-air analog tv.
agreed - FTA are shocking when it comes to coverage.......cant even get friday night AFL live into adelaide

Anyway - as much as its easy to bag Monfies you gotta hand it to Sepenek(sp?)

IS anyone watching the Roddick / Berdych match - what a great start by Thomas

EDIT - Berdych take the set over Roddick 6-1

:D:D:D:D

And trained for this comeback for half the time she had been retired. And it's not like her opponent at the top of the womens tree, far from it.

Roddick's lifted his intensity. Dont mind who wins as long as they can bulldoze Stepanek quick smart.

Berdych always had the tallent to be on of the top 10 players BUT like they said in his quarter final is that the only one that doesnt believe that is Tomas.

Its a long way to go here BUT a win here in Brissie could be the thing that give him that self belief that he has been lacking

oh and on the referal/hawkeye.......use it for every tournament or dont use it at all

Berdych is another one of the 'younger modern day tennis players'. However he's not young any more. He should be hitting his straps pretty soon and if this isn't the year where he moves forward then its going to be never. Has all tools however mentally he is very weak. He's got a massive forhand, solid backhand, moves very very well, big serve, all-court game. He has a very big game. However when theres a big of heat put on him he just rolls over. He is very mnetally weak and once his opponenet gets into his head its game over for him. Hopefully he's more mentally tough this season as its a big one for him.
