BRISBANE LIONS - GRAND FINAL ACTIVITIES
BRISBANE
Saturday: The Lions will host a giant Grand Final Day Party at the South Bank Piazza from 12.30pm-6pm. There will be plenty of fun and a chance to watch all the action on the big screen, and it’s just $5 adults and a gold coin for children. Media Contact: John Fitzgerald (0415) 599601.
Sunday: Win or lose, the Lions players will return to the Gabba to meet members and supporters. The ‘party’ will run from 2pm-6pm, and the players will arrive about 3.15pm. They will be introduced individually on stage, and selected people will be interviewed. There will be a gold coin entry charge.
Note: The function at the Gabba on Sunday was originally scheduled for 12-5pm but the team’s return flight from Melbourne has prompted it to be put back until 2pm.
MELBOURNE
Friday Afternoon: The Lions will have their final training session prior to the Grand Final at 4pm at Albert Cricket Ground. This is located in Roy Street, between StKilda Road and Queens Road. All welcome.
Friday Night: The Brisbane Lions Grand Final Eve Dinner will be held at the Melbourne Convention Centre from 7pm.
Saturday Morning: The Brisbane Lions Grand Final Day Breakfast will be held at The Manningham Club, Bulleen, from 8am-10.30am. SOLD OUT!
Saturday Afternoon: Lions supporters who do not have a Grand Final ticket are invited to attend the Manningham Ballroom or the Turf Bar, 131 Queen Street, Melbourne, to watch the game with other Lions fans on the big screen.
Saturday Night – For the ‘Punters’: Win or lose, the Brisbane Lions will have a post-match ‘party’ for members and supporters in the Victory Room at Colonial Stadium on Saturday night from 6pm-9.30pm. The team will be there about 7.30pm. Admission is $10. Tickets available at the door.
Note: In the early edition of the AFL Grand Final Record it indicated that the club would visit the Tennis Centre for a supporters’ function if the Lions were to win the Grand Final. This function has been cancelled and has been replaced by the ‘win or lose’ supporters function in the Victory Room at Colonial. Any assistance in clarifying this issue would be much appreciated.
Saturday Night – Official Dinner: The official Brisbane Lions Grand Final Dinner will be held on the playing surface at Colonial Stadium from 7pm. The team will arrive about 9pm. Chairman Graeme Downie will commence formalities about 8.15pm. The players will be individually welcomed to the function, and coach Leigh Matthews and captain Michael Voss will speak at the conclusion of the introductions.
Sunday Morning: Win or lose, there will be a Lions ‘party’ for members and supporters at Brunswick Street Oval from 8-11am. Players are expected at 9.45am and will leave about 11am for the flight to Brisbane.
