I'd like to ;ike your post, I agree with the general observstions, except that I really hope GWS win a flag soon just to stick it up the peoplke who mock them.

I think the rest of the problem is that the AFL keep changing rules trying to "speed up the game" to the point where players are just too exhausted to think clearly or execute skills. So teams recruit and train for fitness and effort over skills, which leads us to the poor standards of the modern game. Umpires too, this game didn't get interesting til the umpires got fatigued and stopped blowing their whistle at every little thing.

I like your post Admiral, and I was very frustrated when I wrote that, most of it was from frustration of watchiong a game destroyed by skill level drop offs, and umpires with the heavy rock strapped around their necks of stupid inconsistent grey rules.
GWS and GC17 will survive and perhaps 10 or 20 years down the track our population will be able to cover 18 teams.
I simply don't believe it does now and Western Sydney was a bad idea , the region is immigrants and lots of soccer and rugby, GC is a holiday region a good time place with old retired vics living there, when things go bad they get no crowds, GWS will suffer that too , badly and they will have their down time.
Your club in WA suffers because the recruiting and trade periods where there are another 80 to 100 players that have to be added to the pool for 18 CLUBS!
It makes that trading/ recruiting job so specialised that real confident recruiting departments with people who can really pick quality are needed, it becomes a game of luck for some clubs, and Freo and others a couple in Victoria have been left to sit down low , because the AFL has thrown money by the $millions to two inventions, that have half worked, and thrown top line picks and coaches and trades and even Gil sort of invests himself in Coniglio staying at the giants with his comments, those two clubs were for TV rights money!

Now! How much more money and force will they have to throw at Gold Coast now, who are a basket case?

I don't think GWS will win the flag, I felt last night they won from Brisbane's terrible goal kicking, they didn't have the greatest momentum and Brisbane could have been a couple of goals up instead they let them back in. I feel neither would be a flag winner.

I shouldn't bag these two clubs they are here now , but I see it in a different light , I see it as a move years too early to bring them in and I also see it as an insult and an injury to some clubs who struggle and have two new clubs taking players away .
To a point where the skill level in the league has dropped off because the elite pool is so thinned out now.
And our game is the hardest in the world to play well at elite level.

I get angry for our sport, and 16 clubs was good, a little tight but fair, the powers that be I have no confidence in them at all.
They are money corporate people, who have put the game second, and actually manipulated rules over a few years to suit a faster but less skilled sport .

Our players don't handball legally in close a lot of times , the kicking is bad, the over kill from umpiring and the wrong calls and unfair calls .

Everything, is down to the additions.

I hope that your club which could stay in the doldrums if not careful, gets a boost , because you are from a TRADITIONAL FOOTBALL STATE!

NSW and QLD already have the Swans and Lions, we didn't need two more, they were only for Gils coffers, from tv rights!

Turned out you were correct, kudos to you.
It was sad our forward line didn't function in Finals Footy & even worse that the Lions renewed the contract of our Forwards Coach. Doesn't surprise me you were jumped on by a lot of Brisbane supporters. There is a core group of blinkered fatheads on this site who don't react well any sort of criticism of Brisbane. Not real football people imo.
