Surely from a crowd perspective alone, Yeronga and Coorparoo are better options with regard to capacity, parking and public transport.
There's no real parking at either of those venues, certainly not 600 car parks available so while its not ideal its probably still ahead of those two. Coorparoo probably closer to a train station though i guess

Worth noting brendale is a multi sport complex as well. Really it is a good site for the Government to pump some money in, can accommodate heaps of sports so is still of community use. Yet, have it as a venue that could host pre season games and other events from other sports. MBRC were trying to get the Lions to burp, they want to lure some more pro sport into it's area. NEAFL/AFLW venue wouldnt be a bad option.

Forecast has further deteriorated here in Perth - don't expect this weeks game to be any prettier than last week!
Maybe the women's team is going to inherit the wet game curse. On the flipside it is meant to be like 38 here on Sunday so probably good it isnt a home game either.

The alternative is for the State Government to tell Queensland Cricket that the Gabba isn't available after Christmas for Shield cricket. AB Oval would then need to be their home ground for Shield matches. That would mean the Gabba becomes available as soon as Big Bash and the international season is over. Given they've scheduled a concert to occur while the Shield season is still going, I can't imagine that would cause too much of an issue.

That would have two benefits IMO:

1. Get domestic cricket played at a far more pleasant viewing ground (the Gabba is too much concrete and steel and not enough shade and grass for daytime in the Queensland summer).

2. Allow the Gabba to be used for non-cricket purposes which draw bigger crowds than Shield cricket. Between concerts, women's footy and the preseason comp, you'd make better use of the facility than is currently the case.

Question for Brisbane people and it may be a stupid one I don't know but any chance the womens game could be played at Allan Border Field?

I don't think so. It is a 12 months a year cricket facility which is owned by Queensland Cricket and includes the national high performance centre.

I wouldn't have really thought that parking was a plus at Coorparoo. Public transport yes, but not parking. Unless there is more that i dont know about.

More sort of thinking that there are plenty of public streets you can park in, as opposed to designated parking, a short walk from the ground. Also they're not averse to opening up the college next door for parking.

Whereas South Pine is more remote, not a lot of residential parking.

FINAL SHIELD GAME MOVED TO ALLAN BORDER FIELD
  • February 7, 2017
Queensland Cricket has been advised by Stadiums Queensland that the myFootDr Queensland Bulls final game of the 2016-17 season is unable to be played at the Gabba as scheduled due to turf replacement works occurring post the Adele concert being held at the ground in March.

Allan Border Field in Albion will instead host the game against the Victorian Bushrangers from 16th – 19th of March. It will be the first time the Sheffield Shield has been played at the ground since November 2014.

Following last week’s thumping win over Tasmania, the Bulls sit in third spot on the Shield ladder, 7.48 points behind the top-placed Bushrangers.

Queensland next meet the New South Wales Blues starting Friday at the SCG.

Not the worst news in the world. 3 of those games in a row now. Girls will be well prepared for the conditions and it seemed to work OK for us last week.

Yeah, I'm officially out. Just impossible circumstances with a small child. Not a fan/family friendly outcome at all.

Really sucks to be honest.

I also know someone who is a Lions AFLW foundation member. $150 dollars or so for very little material in return. She rang the club to find out if the AFLW Lions members get priority access. They do not.

The (edit) AFLW facebook event said you should bring a picnic rug to get a seat on the grass. I think that amount of space per attendee is going to be more than a little bit optimistic.

I'm super keen to try and stake my own picnic rug space there on Saturday to support the girls but I've got a really bad feeling the firewall upgrade at work is pegged for this weekend. :'(

I just hope no one dies in this heat and the likely standing room only space. It will be awfully hot there. Whoever organised this needs to actually get down there and see it first hand ffs.
It's increasingly clear they were only anticipating a crowd of around the 1000 mark, in which case, the ground would work quite well. I imagine that there will be an official opening planned by Moerton Bay Regional Council, Aspley Hornets and possibly AFLQ.

For anyone who hasn't seen the ground:
