Right up until the administrator was appointed.

If you can delude yourself into thinking that the Brisbane Lions is the same as the Fitzroy Football club then good luck to you.

'The following week September 1st 1996, saw Fitzroy's last and 1,928th match in the VFL/AFL. The players with the club emblem tattoed on their arms entered the ground through a banner displaying the names of every player who played 90 or more games for Fitzroy. Fitzroy lost by 86 points. Brad Boyd was the last captain, Simon Atkins kicked the last goal and Martin Pike was later voted the last Fitzroy Best and Fairest. A lone singer sang "Auld Lang Syne" as the last ever Fitzroy team departed the VFL/AFL competition, in which their club had been a participant in for the last 100 years.'

I suppose I'd probably do the same thing in your position

Roylion could probably explain the circumstances better than i, but i believe that the BBFFC are the custodians of our identity and heritage at an AFL level.
Still this adds nothing to your argument that all the Brisbane Lions achieved was somehow ill gotten.

illgotten is your words. The AFL wanted Brisbane to win premierships to increase the clubs footing in Queensland, so they continually tweaked the rules until they achieved it. Now, they're doing the same thing with the new clubs and have dumped Brisbane.

That's what I've argued all along, prove this as being inaccurate.

Yet it's perfectly ok for the endless personal attacks aimed at me.

Roylion has beaten no one, I feel for him because he lost his team and the only thing he has that resembles anything like it is now run by a bunch of clowns. The only time in Brisbane's history that they've been successful was when they were manufactured by the AFL. No one has even come close to being able to prove this statement wrong.

Well, i think your fact that it has been soundly covered and reputed, but keep trying

Screw 'em.

I agree. Have no desire to see anyone struggle but someone has to come last. It's the nature of competition. If their admin isn't up to scratch then they can sort that shit themselves. They had some allowances not so long ago and won 3 straight flags. 10 years later they are struggling. Time to work their way out of it.

I can recall 1996 wasn't too long after we had an even greater period of success but we had to turn things around ourselves.

So what do you imagine the millions given to your club in the name of equalization is any different, my club to my knowledge has never received the sort of money that yours has enjoyed over the years, yet i have never complained.

We tried. Then the AFL put a gun to our head because an "EGM didn't look good" and we got stuck with Sharpless and comprised board no-one is happy with.

oh ffs, do you honestly believe that Brisbane has never received money from the AFL to 'assist' them?

C'mon, now you're just burying your head in the sand.

As for crawb, you're a bottom feeder, your reputation for personal insults is widely known on BF, I'm happy to have a decent debate and argument with you but I highly doubt you're capable of any such thing.

I'll ask again. Representing Hore-Lacy for what? For what purpose?

Hore_Lacy wasn't locked in any legal battle regarding Fitzroy until Bondborough vs. Brisbane Bears. This took place some months after the administrator was appointed.

If you can delude yourself into thinking that the Brisbane Lions is the same as the Fitzroy Football club then good luck to you.

What on earth are you talking about? Have you actually read anything I've said?

Of course Fitzroy and the Brisbane Lions are different clubs. I've been saying that for a number of years on here. I'm a current shareholder of the Fitzroy Football Club, not the Brisbane Lions.

'The following week September 1st 1996, saw Fitzroy's last and 1,928th match in the VFL/AFL. Err....yes. What's your point? Fitzroy used to play in the AFL. Now they don't. They currently play in the VAFA. Who the hell do I watch most Saturdays in football season?

I suppose I'd probably do the same thing in your position

Do what?

I haven't lost my club. They still play in Melbourne at their original home ground.

The only time in Brisbane's history that they've been successful was when they were manufactured by the AFL.

When the inherent disadvantages of being in a non-football state were addressed, Brisbane were very competitive.

So you don't know about the whole Hore-Lacy/Oakley thing leading up to when The Nauru Insurance Company appointment the administrator?

Interesting, I thought the inner sanctum was privy to that information.

You know what, the other stuff you can have, I don't give a shit about it, have your internet win, this is more interesting from a historical perspective.

Sorry mate. Didn't mean to sound heartless and I'll readily admit I don't know what's going on with your board (barely take notice what happens with ours). The premise of my post is that the AFL is a competition. It's cyclical - you have the good and the bad, both on field and off, and I don't agree with the notion that the AFL has to step in and help sides that are at the arse end at any particular point in time. This isn't an opinion based on your Club's situation right now so it is made with no personal issue with the Lions - but if any club is down then draft well, coach well, admin well etc etc...

Some clubs will get it right and improve and others will get it wrong and have to reset......and reset again perhaps. Just because there are equalisations measures like the draft and salary cap etc doesn't mean the league has to be manufactured to ensure everyone has a period of success. At any point in time some clubs will just be doing it better than others. It's the way it is.

It didn't sound heartless, I just wanted to give some context for that particular comment :thumbsu:

I don't think any Lions supporter wants anything more than some help to get things right off field, we have tried as supporters to fix it ourselves and as has been said we were steamrolled by Andy D and ended up with a frankenstein type setup none of us wanted.

Brisbane deserve nothing, they are not even last.
Port Adelaide were under much more pressure on and off the field and those bastards running the AFL got rid of the priority pick rule just when we were about to collect.

If Brisbane get a free pick I want the AFL to give Port Jon Patton on a silver platter.

The dumbest thing anyone on Big Footy can do is argue with Roylion about Fitzroy. You will be destroyed, and deservedly so. Roylion knows some stuff about that!

Always good entertainment though to watch him methodically take an argument apart piece by piece.

I think you will find relatively few Lions supporters are even asking for a "free pick". What we need is real off-field help from the AFL, the sort of help that I would hope they give to each other struggling club. If you needed help off-field you should have got it too.

I would take decent help from the AFL off-field over a free pick any day.

I'm all for help to be given to fix your off-field issues, every club should receive that type of assistance if required.

The "whole Hore-Lacy/Oakley thing"? Like what. Give details. Exact details.

I attended meetings of the shareholders with the Fitzroy board to be informed of the progress of merger discussions. Dyson Hore-Lacy is a QC and was in 1996. He was more than capable of representing himself. I've spoken personally to Dyson Hore-Lacy on a number of occasions about the events of 1996.

What lawyers were representing Dyson Hore-Lacy and for what purpose? Fitzroy has several legal advisors which were Peter Buchanan, Bruce Curl and John McArdle, but none were "representing Dyson Hore-Lacy" in any legal proceedings. They were there to "advise" on the legal mechanics of bringing about a merger between North and Fitzroy. It was Dyson Hore-Lacy who dealt exclusively with Nauru's solicitor Graham Sherry.

There was no legal battle between Fitzroy, Brisbane, North or the AFL, until the Bondborough vs. Brisbane Bears court case, for Dyson Hore-Lacy to be represented by anyone. Dyson Hore-Lacy was one of the three Fitzroy directors authorised to conduct merger discussions with other clubs and he spoke to Jeff Browne, the AFL's solicitor on a number of occasions.

Interesting, I thought the inner sanctum was privy to that information.

You've been told all this before. On a number of occasions. But you still keep bringing up the same rubbish, and I have to refute it yet again.

..and that's exactly what we've been banging on about. THE MEMBERS TRIED TO SORT IT OUT BY THEMSELVES. WE CALLED AN EGM....

The AFL blocked our attempts......again I ask WHY??

We need help with the running of our club, its a mess......the rest will follow.
