Yeeeeah, about that...Headland played 20 games in 2001 and another 20 in 2002 - considerably less than what he averaged at Freo. Does that fit your definition of insecure?Great point. Homesickness is a convenient excuse rolled out when a player wants to leave a club that's not doing well. In Headland's case he was going to be fifth wheel in close to the best midfield the game has seen. Fremantle offered him more security as a top line player. Once he got the premiership medal, it was a no-brainer to head to another club. We've benefited from it (Gunston) as well as being on the losing end (Jarman, Allan, McPharlin).

I dunno what you Lions fans are squealing about. FFS, you have won three premierships!Sadly that is how it is up here.
Apart from diehard fans no one in Queensland cares about aerial ping pong..This is is usually said with a dismissive smirk by rugby league stalwarts who dispise our game.
If you live in any other state but NSW you have honestly no idea what it is like up here.
That includes you fat Eddie.you who took any support we had away.
Hope Pies never win another flag in your lifetime you self centred %&-+![]()
You make it sound like he was a goalkeeper being played as a strikerHe was excellent that year but was still going to be fifth wheel in a superb midfield. What he ended up playing at Fremantle is moot - point was Brisbane were blessed with great players in the midfield. Not dissimilar to Hawthorn noting being able to fit Josh Kennedy into a midfield of Mitchell, Sewell, Lewis and Hodge.
. He had career best statistics at the Lions... not sure your hitting the mark by suggesting what your suggesting. Maybe try again via another angleGot nothing to do with it.you live in Victoria. The discussion was about the disinterest in Afl in Queensland and how we appear to have been forgotten by the head honchos.I dunno what you Lions fans are squealing about. Take a moment to think how Bulldogs, Demons and Saints supporters feel.

Of course I feel for those clubs.Never thought we would win one let alone three.so we have been blessed by an awesome team.
My better half is a Bulldogs fan.he is just resigned to never winning another flag .sadly.

Sadly brisbane kicked 2.5.17One of the greatest teams 10-15 years ago. Now they have hit rock bottom. Many teams struggle and struggle for so many years. Teams like Hawthorn, Sydney, Collingwood, and Geelong will continue to have success. This better change in a few years time.
When I thought of Brisbanes horrible game on the weekend, I thought of your threadMake no mistake, they are the worst team in the competition at the moment.
They have issues off the field and on the field. Administration is a joke, their leader is out injured, probably never to return, support is down, crowds are down, profits are unheard of.
Brisbane is just as an important market as Sydney in the grand scheme of things and everyone loves the Fitzroy Lions - the competition is better off to have that link to them, it needs it I believe.
If Sydney deserves a "COLA" then Brisbane surely deserve some extra help as well. Yes a lot of their predicament is their own doing (see poor admin) but in the interests of a strong competition it isn't good for any team to be like Brisbane is right now
The past weekend was an abberation from a young team who had been up for three weeks but had a down game that happened to be against the reigning premiers. We did nearly beat Port at AO a week prior. If a similarly bad result happens again this week against the GC at the Gabba then sure, fire away. But I am extremely confident this Richmond game will not be viewed as an accurate reflection of us by seasons end.

Nah, the AFL is still generally pleased by the state of football in QLD. We're exactly where they want us to be. They're probably rather us get about 6 wins a year so there wouldn't be as many questions, but really, they're fine with it.
We're still stuffed. Things won't change under the current rules. We were hurt by previous administrations, and GC/GWS entry (more than other teams due to our ladder position), and now we're in the middle of our third rebuild without really getting anyway. Two years, then Beams Zorko Martin all retire, then back down for a fourth rebuild.
All the "young, promising list" and "on the up" is just sales tactics. We're still stuffed. The club's just getting better at putting out a positive message.
SANFL is a superior level to NEAFL, something which holds us back I suspect. And of course we lost our 5 infamous players who, if out there for us today, apart from Longer, would have made a big difference.
