Yeah, if only Karnezis was still here...![]()
The past weekend was an abberation from a young team who had been up for three weeks but had a down game that happened to be against the reigning premiers. We did nearly beat Port at AO a week prior. If a similarly bad result happens again this week against the GC at the Gabba then sure, fire away. But I am extremely confident this Richmond game will not be viewed as an accurate reflection of us by seasons end.

From where we have been, Melbourne, StK were a fair bit higher than we are. Saints are probably just outside the 8 but their confidence was up at the start of the season. Melbounre should be around a top 8 side this season. Also to nearly beat Port at AO is such a better result than what we have done recently there. The average losing margin is like 90 points or something. Clear improvements from last season just havent got the wins on the board yet. We need to beat GC tomoro tho“Been up”? They’d lost 3 in a row. I hate threads like this but if narrow losses against mediocre teams are considered “up” then maybe OP has a point.
Glad Brisbane turned it around. Please, you wouldn't even know what success means so go away.
Cliffs for the Brisbane results from the time this thread was active until the recent bump.
2014: 15th 7 wins 15 losses.
2015: 17th 4 wins 18 losses
2016: 17th 3 wins 19 losses
2017: 18th 5 wins 17 losses
2018: 17th 0 wins 4 losses
Glad Brisbane turned it around.
They got the right people at the right time.
Getting Chris Fagan as coach was a good move.
Poaching David Noble from the crows at the end of 2016 was nothing short of a masterstroke in my opinion.
excellent call.....Huge changes have happened between 2014 and 2018, thank god. At this stage, results aren't quite so important, as its the little changes required in and around the club, effort and stability within the team that have to be fixed first.
The wins will come.
For the first time in years, there is a genuine confidence in the club from the fans..
Good to see the Lions up and about.
5 years time we’ll all be sick of them like 2004.
2004 - Brisbane average home crowd is 33,619.
2014 - Gold Coast average home crowd is 16,806.
2014 - Brisbane average home crowd is 20,568 coming off a record low (as Lions) of 12,700.
Brisbane hovered under 20k per game for 5 years. This year they are almost at 25k. 700,000 more people attended Lions games this year than last, that's fantastic. Definite bandwagon but ride it while it's there, it's all good news coming out of Brisbane.
Gold Coast averaging just under 12k with a decent boost from playing Rich/Carl/Ess at home and all the expat Vics going along.
35-40k people seems to be where support for footy in Queensland maxes out. Will we ever see Brisbane and Gold Coast both averaging 20k+ to home games?
But rugby has a strong presence in Queensland so fans generally drop off quick if the Lions aren’t anywhere near the top 4 excluding the Roy fans who stayed on.Hate the words "band wagon". Every teams numbers vary depending on how they are going. Ours are no different to any other fluctuations.
for that to happen Brisbane have to be good in which they are.Brisbane hovered under 20k per game for 5 years. Not really, because the Lions have got 35k themselves to a couple of games this year, leaving aside the Suns crowds which are still over 10k a game despite having a garbage team. So we're already at 45k-50k on occasion, and that will be pretty consistent next year assuming the Lions continue to do well. Plus the Gold Coast has never had a good team to support. Success brings crowds and I reckon a successful Suns team would regularly draw 20k.35-40k people seems to be where support for footy in Queensland maxes out.
What about this new bump?
2019: 1st 16 wins 5 losses with a game to play
Amazing that with a competent mature footy department there are now quality footballers falling over themselves to get thereI just reckon that the call for a retention allowance is a fairly lazy way to "fix" the issue. There doesn't appear to have been any enterprising movement by the Lions as a club to sell the advantages of living in Brisbane that won't attract every player but will certainly appeal to many if positioned correctly. The noises out of the club - and the shambolic way it's been run over the last half decade don't help - only seem to focus on teh disadvantages of living in Brisbane which then becomes a self-perpetuating cycle

How times have changedMake no mistake, they are the worst team in the competition at the moment.
They have issues off the field and on the field. Administration is a joke, their leader is out injured, probably never to return, support is down, crowds are down, profits are unheard of.
Brisbane is just as an important market as Sydney in the grand scheme of things and everyone loves the Fitzroy Lions - the competition is better off to have that link to them, it needs it I believe.
If Sydney deserves a "COLA" then Brisbane surely deserve some extra help as well. Yes a lot of their predicament is their own doing (see poor admin) but in the interests of a strong competition it isn't good for any team to be like Brisbane is right now
