as a passionate (but truthful) gfc supporter, i have to say that brisbane will thump geelong down at shell by 55 points because they wear mascara and bras, and g-strings, because they have been crap the last 8 weeks (2-5-1 record) how shite is that ?

The last 8 weeks have been 3-4-1 MORON!

And not one of those games have been at KP.

The losses have been to Essendon - 1st, Carlton 2nd, Richmond 3rd and Hawthorn 8th. (I admit Hawthorn was bad!)

You clearly didn't go to the game on the weekend.

If you had have, then you would have noticed that Geelong was without Mooney, Bizzell and Kilpatrick, while Carlton was only missing Fraser Brown - who's had it anyway.

Geelong had Rahilly on Bradley, Milburn on Kouta, Steinfort on Camporeale (who hardly touched it all day long) and Harley on Whitnall after he beat Graham and McGrath - Whitnall only got 2 goals after qtr time.

Add to this a side which included Clarke, Spriggs, Wojcinski, Ling and Houlihan and you had a pretty young side taking on the likes of Silvagni, Bradley, Campo, Kouta, Hammill, Ratten etc at Optus Oval in front of more than 30,000 sceaming Carlton supporters.

Carlton are supposedly the second best team going around and for that Geelong side to get so close to them (10 points, after leading by 1 point at the 21 minute mark of the last qtr) shows they (Geelong) are playing in very very good form.

The last time we had a close loss to a top team, (North, rd 4) we came out and beat the Eagles by 81 points at KP the nest week.

While I don't expect Geelong to win by that much this time around, I expect Geelong to win by 5 to 7 goals.

After viewing the Cats last week, I think they will thrash the Lions. Their team is now very interesting with talented mid range players - Milburn, Steinfort, Rahilly etc , plus they had lost Bizzel.

The Lions DON'T have a ruckman. The Cats have the BEST one going around. As long as they maintain some scoreboard pressure, I can't see the Lions getting anywhere near them.

The Cats just need a better goto forward to straighten them up ( and some real self belief ) and they're top 4. You'd have to congratulate the coach on such a big turnaround - there's definately a plan and it seemed that the players were working to it.

Well Bernie, the Geelong boys mustn't have been working to the coaches plan today..as they were thrashed to the tune of 69 points by the Lions. Sounds like King didn't murder the Lions in the centre-square with Lappin, Black and Voss among the Lions best and King moved to the forward line. As to the Lions not having a ruckman, well Beau McDonald and Trent Knobel aren't in the team as forwards! I would consider that with only 30 senior games between them they are matching most ruckmen in the competition. I wouldn't consider King the benchmark of ruckmen either (although he is haveing a good season)..that honor belongs to Matthew Allan.

Tonight with a 7-8 record the Lions are in the eight..finally.

6 home games out of the final seven rounds to come for the Lions! 13-14 wins aren't out of the question and a 5th-8th ladder position extremely possible.

Ahhh! A few people in this thread should be tasting their humble pie around about now. So much for the Nostradamus tipping. For a team that doesn't have a ruckman, McDonald did a pretty good job of shutting King out of the game, not too bad for a forward!!

Was I wrong or what !!!

I actually attended the match. It was a delight to walk in, STAND on the hill, have a beer and engage in the normal 'witty repartee' with a somewhat subdued Geelong population.

Where I was wrong.

1. Beau McDonald imposed himself early on, even running thru' the centre for a goal. That was a huge effort... and the other 'twin tower' Knobel. King got thrashed.

2. Bradshaw / Lynch worked well together with no Molloy crashing around. He was great up the back, allowing Leppitsch to totally dominate his part of the ground. He is a class act.

3. Darryl White continues to amaze - he has become probably the best defender in the AFL with all his little taps and flicks.

4. The Cats could not buy a goal - I did mention that they needed to maintain scoreboard pressure and at one point the Lions were 17.7 and the Cats were 7.17. The scoreboard pressure was definately on them.

5. The Cats had marginally the worse of the outs but it was their home game.

Where to from here ? I still think the Lions are vulnerable without Keating - CHF spot was not happenning - but it looks like GABBA finals again.

Is that enough humble pie ?

I don't know about GABBA finals, maybe GABBA final is they finish 5-6, I can't see them winning all the games to get there. Despite their home ground advantage finish to the season. Carlton, Bulldogs and Adelaide away will surely test how good they are.

They looked like the side of 1999, unfortunately, so did Geelong.

I will eat humble pie, I honestly thought with Ricco's sister dying during the week, it may pump them up, but it looks like it had the opposite effect, it flattened them.

If they had have kicked straight, it may have been a different story.

One thing I noticed was that Sanderson, McGrath, Sholl and Harley were listed as Geelong's better players

....THEY HAD 20 GOALS KICKED ON THEM.....

It just shows how poor the midfield and Attack were.

As much as I would like to see the Lions back in form, I would suggest todays news item will quash that straight away.

"British Police have reccomended to the British Authorities that the 2 Brisbane Lions players qestioned over an alleged rape be charged. A decision is expected by the end of this month"

Sorta puts a stress on the team, and has been shown this year so far that the Lions crumble under pressure from off-field activities.

Hmmmmmmm bit of bummer. Better start saving the dosh to go to Victoria to watch finals footy I reckon - can't see any happening up here.

Well I was right, wasn't I gocatsgo ? I always knew that Geelong would be slaughtered and instead of congradulating me on my prediction, you scatter off like the weazel that you are. Fact is that Geelong aren't good enough for finals standard football, but they should beat freo this week.
