Young teams like Stkilda in a couple of years are going to struggle to maintain their fantastic young list. with hamils contract extension what will happen to players like goddard, luke ball, delsanto and several other players. im sure they wouldn't have pay issues if they had an extra 600,000.

And imagine how much worse it would be if 3/4 of St Kilda's list came from outside Victoria. That would be Brisbane's situation without the salary cap concession. The concession merely levels the playing field.

Eddie Mcguire is the most selfish and arrogant president seen in football circles in a long time (even beating Diamond Joe and Jack Elliott)

I've had a gutful of that toad.
You should get a dose of reality. The fact is that Eddie has done far more for other clubs than all club presidents, past and present, have ever done. When did Jack ever help other clubs get sponsorship? When Carlton were struggling two years ago with the heavy fines and everything which club jumped in and offered to help with a Legends game?

Get your facts straight first before you start shouting your biased rantings.

The reality is that eddie is very one eyed about Collingwood. Nothing new about that as most fans are one eyed about their team. I have no problem with that. What I do object to is that when he lets' his passion for the sadpies spill over into his supposedly neutral media role. He needs to learn to seperate his two roles so as not to alienate the majority of fans who are getting annoyed at his antics. Most famous players who now commentate seem to be able to manage it, why not eddie?

I agree that Eddie should review his attitude during football commentaries, although other commentators let their bias show through. One of the best things about Channel 7 losing the rights was that Ian Robinson no longer gets to call Carlton games.

Eddie does everything in his power to advance the cause of the Collingwood Football Club. Any club president that doesn't should be kicked out of their job. However he does far more than most to assist other clubs that are struggling yet the boards, supporters etc continue to kick him for it. Weird.

St Kilda's local component proportion of their list for 2004 is 62%, which rises to 64% if Tasmanians are included.

Eddie McGuire claimed that Northern Territorians were Brisbane's locals, so I guess any Tasmanians on the list must be therefore regarded as St Kilda's locals.

Brisbane's local component proportion for 2004 is 22%, or 33% if Northern Territorians are included.

I'd say based on that, given that St Kilda have double the locals on their list that Brisbane do on theirs, the Lions have a much harder job retaining their non-local players.

On this point, don't we have 9 other victorian teams calmouring for our young stars?? They might not be moving home but how about something to stop raiding from next door neighbours??

The reason why people have only jumped on this now is because of the list brisbane has brought together. It isn't just going home that these concessions are stopping, its getting raided by other clubs full stop.

How about a extra amount given to draftees in their second contract if they are playing for their first team (that drafted them) with an addition if they are from interstate. This could encourage players to stay with the one club (which means alot to supporters), stops the raiding by other clubs and helps the interstate teams hold onto their non-home state players.

We all understand that brisbane and sydney need to be successful to grow the game but the rest of us would like a flag every now and then if we deserve it!

Interesting, this. So where does this leave Brendon Lade, who is from Kangaroo Island??

Eddie can have his cake and eat it too... the game needs development in Tassie . . I think the Launceston Magpies has a great ring to it? We can give them salary cap injection and he can build up a game in a new area. That would be a bonus for the AFL and Collingwood, oops... Launy Pies can have a great home-ground advantage at York Park and the 'interstate' sides will need two flights to get there! Whaddya think Eddie, you love a challenge?!
