Bring it on lions
The Brisbane Lions have Kangaroos captain Adam Simpson in their sights when the two struggling teams meet in Saturday night's clash at the Gabba according to rugged midfielder Brad Scott.
Scott claims Simpson upset the Lions following comments the Roos skipper made about them after the triple-premiers surprisingly lost to Hawthorn back in round four.
At the time, the Kangaroos were on a roll and Simpson was complaining about the lack of interest and coverage they were getting despite the Roos unbeaten run and were about to face the Hawks in round five.
He claimed the Lions had shown the Hawks little respect and said they were going show Hawthorn a great deal more than what Brisbane did. The Kangaroos ended up winning by 19 points.
"I think it was pretty obvious they (Brisbane) probably just thought they'd come down and notch up a win and you can't do that these days with any team," said Simpson at the time.
Scott says those comments were put away in the memory bank in readiness for this week.
"I can tell you a lot of guys have been looking forward to this game for a long time and we are looking forward to welcoming him to the Gabba again," he declared prior to training on Wednesday night.
"He (Simpson) presumed we went into the game arrogant and got ahead of ourselves which was not the case. We were beaten by Hawthorn who produced much better football than what we did on the day."
Scott admitted the Lions do have a lot respect for Simpson as some of them have known him for a while and were disappointed he would make those remarks.
"We thought it was out of character, but hopefully we will rectify that on Saturday night," added Scott.
The Lions head into Saturday night still struggling to put their best 22 on the field because of injuries and now have to contend with the speculation over recently appointed vice-captain Luke Power, who is out with a broken hand, possibly leaving the club when he comes out of contract at the end of the year.
"I suppose in a way it's disruptive, but it is a fact of life," replied Scott when asked about the talk over Power.
"When you have a successful period you are going to have successful players and other clubs are going to be interested when those players come out of contract.
"We do individually put a lot of pressure on guys to stay, but at the end of the day it is their decision."
I reckon if the lions have to use this as motivation to beat us they are going no where this year. They have lost 4 of there home games and are only 2 wins now thats motivation to win. I say bring it on..
