I'm on 512 DSL so it would be stupid to presume I could. What's funny is "but they generally have the better service." Tesltra is well known among the internet community as having one of the crapiest services around. You pay though the ass and only get what someone else can give you at a cheaper price using the same lines.

Not true at all. Their cable service is better than optus'. And I was with their dialup service years ago. Never had a busy signal, and always got good speeds for dial up.
I know people on their adsl service, and they have had no complaints.
They havent got a better service than Optus at all.. All i've heard from a few people with Telstra that their Service isnt anywhere near as good as Optus'..PAFC2004 said:

depends on which cable plan were talking about. Lets take the unlimited* one on bigpond and optus, if you get capped it is at 8k on bigpond, wereas optus its 3k i believe, it might be straight away on optus once you reach the limit? whereas bigpond it isn't ... at least yet. The cost is also more a month on optus. The telstra network is also a lot bigger, add to that the free content such as gamearena and their files download makes it hard to look past, not sure what if anything optus offers. Counting the uploads with download is a negative against bigpond though, and optus seem to have a bit bigger download limit before capping, but i think you can still get more via bigpond uncapped if you know how. As i live in adeliade the only active cable network is telstra's, and as i can't get dsl, it makes bigpond a good enough choice.juddy03 said:

i can't believe i will stick up for a port supporter, but have you actually looked at the bigpond plans? the unlimited plan is better in cost, and i would say speed also, not sure on reliability though. bigpond is fine for some of us, the only bitch i have about it is the crappy capping system, but i believe it is still better then optus version, as i am sure they cap straight on your limit.juddy03 said:

We pay $54 a month ($59.95 + 10% discount for having Foxtel and a Telstra phone as well), and get unlimited downloads at an uncapped speed.
They say they may cap you after 10GB but we constantly go over 10GB and have never noticed a difference in speeds.
We also got 2 free months and free installation from a promo they were running at the start of the year.
So $54 a month, 10% of our foxtel and phone bills, uncapped speed, unlimited downloads, no line rental costs obviously.... easily the best value IMO.
Telstra are still scum though.

12gig download i think we pay 69$ once you go over 12gig you get 56k speed. Whilst it is a bit pricey , it is the best connection fast and reliable. I have never been disconnected and only once was the internet ever down when i was on (which is alot). I have never ever had any troubles with optus and all my mate with telstra always complain how the mail service isn't working or they get d/c

still say telstra service is terrible, when u can actully see the cable hanging off the telephone pole down the road and i live in the metro area of melbourne its pretty ******** that this took over 2 weeks to fix, and i had to chase up a refund for weeks.
