Don't discount Port gambling Shaun will get cold feet about the draft if backed into a corner ala ROK. That is a live option.
Yep, agreed. And we'd be criticised again for holding up the draft

All this talk of Pick 9 plus a player for Burgoyne is driving me nuts. The suggestion of Pick 9 + Lewis is ridiculous. Lewis is not even in the talks, he's required by Hawthorn.

I'm not even sure I'd trade pick 9, let alone throwing a player into the bargin. Burgoyne's good, but he's not THAT good.

Holy shit thats ridiculous.
I'd want something coming with Burgoyne to trade Lewis. You will get greater contribution from Lewis across 22 games then you ever will from Burgoyne.

No-one is actually talking about that trade ... other than the odd Hawthorn poster saying that the trade is ridiculous (which it is), then another Hawks supporter coming along, seeing it, and taking it as truth, and letting it snowball.

What are the implications of Port agreeing to an Essendon trade despite SB nominating Hawthorn as preferred?
Shaun has to agree as well.

So it comes back again to what "preferred" really means .... and who has actually said it.

I'm hoping (from Ports angle) that the fact Port was keen to talk to Essendon, and gave them all the right signals means he is not against going there if they offer significantly more.
A lot comes down to what we dont know - is he leaving Port on good terms .... certainly eveything choco has said has been complimentary of him, so who knows.

No-one is talking about it? Then why is Chris Pelchen only too aware of it? Please, don't post unless you know the facts, otherwise state that it is opinion only. This is the problem with this forum, too many people try to act as if they have a clue what's going on.

OK then - find one quote from someone in either footy club saying "Port want pick 9 and Lewis" ?

In fact - its hard to find someone on these forums that thinks 9+Lewis is a fair deal, or any chance of happening.

Interesting time for the club. I've probably posted more on this site in the last 2 days than I have for the 4 odd years I've been a member.

Shaun Burgoyne when fit and in form, is ridiculously good. He would be easily in the top 3 or 4 players at Hawthorn when at his best. Will we see his best? I hope so, a change of scenery often brings out renewed enthusiasm for the game, especially when your team is realistically gunning for a premiership.

However, as stated by many reasonable people, Jordan Lewis as a straight swap makes little sense, so Lewis + 9 for Burgoyne is just plain ridiculous and won't happen, so I wouldn't bother worrying about it.

To be honest, i'm not sure what the trade will be, I'm inclined to believe that pick 9 is enough in the circumstances, a lot of other people disagree and believe a player needs to be packaged along with the pick. Ladson just re-signed and Kennedy would be hard to trade, so if this is to happen, you'd think Port would want McGlynn or a young KP like Thorp or Dowler.

Either way, the clubs most immediate concern is the backline. Gibson wants to come to Hawthorn, and he has to be a lock for our recruiters, Burgoyne would be fantastic, but we can't let good KPB's slip through our fingers for more midfielders.
