Its the buddy contract - if you get 5 great years and he slows down in the last 2 then so be it.

It's better than trying to get another ruck in.

Easy for you to say given he’s not a Roo. The reason for the Buddy deal was also to dislodge him from Hawthorn and it also assumes that deal was a good one which for mine it wasn’t.

There’s no way he gets that deal from the Hawks (hence them not matching) or the Swans if he was already there. Given Grundy is at Collingwood it would need to be at the $700-800k mark for me to buy in because if he’s drops off with 2 years left and is costing us $1 million a season then that’s not good business, IMO.

It's a goddamn steal. Grundy is a generational talent and as the salary cap continues to rise this will prove to be a bargain, assuming he stays relatively injury free.

The last sentence is the kicker! When you’re talking 6-8 years into the future you can’t possibly have confidence in a guys body when he plays 90% match time of 95% of matches in the most physically demanding role in the sport.

7 mill over 7 years.

1.2 mill a year for his 5 great years - which other clubs would offer more.

500k a year for his 2 years as he moves towards retirement.

Looks like correct weight to me.

You can't offer a 2 or 3 year deal when he is getting 7 year offers.

Mate it’s Collingwood there’s no way that’s the deal, it’s too smart, but the way our list is structured we can’t afford him on $1.2m for the next 5 years. I’m also fully aware 2-3 wasn’t getting it done I just wouldn’t have gone past 5 (even then my buttholes clenching)!

If its 7 over 7 then i'm am posting at how you should look at how he is getting paid - not how its actually structured.

It maybe heavily back ended with Pendles and Sidey long gone. I wouldn't roll the dice and him getting 10 mill over 7 years offer and moving back to SA.

I appreciate the point you’re trying to make. The thing is I know enough about our list to understand that I can’t get around it because of other contracts we’ve already negotiated and have still to be done. We have Adams, Treloar and Crisp on good money for multiple years then JDG and Moore to consider plus the likelihood that Stephenson ain’t going to be on peanuts for much longer. All it takes is for one or two others to bob up and we’re in a difficult spot and it would actually be nice for us to be in a position to improve our list through acquisitions at some point...

If that’s the deal he’s getting out of SA my stance would be good luck because we can’t get near it. I’d also add that’s irresponsible of them, but at least understandable given the buyers premium.

Does anybody know what the dollars will be ? If it is actually $7 mil over 7 years thats a great deal for the pies as he is clearly worth much more

On the market today he would be attracting $7 million over 6 years easily

Given he has just been announced as a specialist coach for the AFLW, I wonder if that makes up for the $$

Collingwood’s AFL players Jordan Roughead and Brodie Grundy, together with Lynden Dunn, will also support the program as specialist coaches.

Will JDG attract long term 1mill+ a year deals?
He's a gun, although definitely not worth $1m+ so the only way I see offers $1m+ is if it comes from North, Saints, Gold Coast, etc. Probably more likely to be fielding offers in that $800k-$900k range

Probably less likely to come from the Saints though now that they brought in Hill on huge coin. Losing Bruce and Steven basically pays for Howard and Jones in $ terms, but Hill being on $900k means the remaining cap space won't be thrown around so loosely, especially if they want to ensure they're retaining their young guns who come out of contract in the next couple of years like Marshall, Billings, Clark, Steele, Battle etc

So he got the 7 year deal from pies but still hasn’t signed?

Bit Hard when he is not there to sign anything.

Came Back to Club Today so should have done Officially Hopefully before the End of Year Break

IF he were to move, it'd be the biggest trade/move since free agency opened up and Brendan Goddard was on the move. Bigger than Buddy? Maybe!

Well at moment that looks Impossible pf Happening any time soon

Weren’t pies fans saying this was a done deal

yet still nothing as we enter the new year

Collingwood never said it was a Done Deal.

It was the Media who was saying it was a Done Deal.

Media said that about Pies Players last year and was Months before Club Announced it
