Dean Kelly, younger brother of Heath Black, has been invited to train at Fremantle leading up to the 2006 rookie draft.
Kelly was one of the biggest stars in the Oakleigh Chargers 27-point TAC Cup Grand Final win over the Calder Cannons and was awarded the TAC Medal for best on ground at the MCG, joining a select group of current AFL stars to have received the honour, including Adam Goodes, Anthony Rocca, Brent Harvey, Amon Buchanan and Brock McLean.
A midfielder, with a strong build and great work ethic, Kelly was hoping to be drafted on Saturday in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft.
Despite being overlooked, his dream to play alongside brother, Heath is not over yet with Kelly set to hit the track at Fremantle Oval for the next few weeks to get a taste of life as an AFL footballer and to try and capture the interest of the coaching staff before the upcoming rookie draft.
While his ambition is to play AFL football, Kelly is covering all bases, currently studying Criminal Justice at Melbourne’s RMIT University and also works part-time with his father as a carpenter.
Kelly will kick start his pre-season training at Fremantle Oval this week alongside his big brother.
