Brown to man up on Fevola

People are mad if they think it will be a one on one contest. You'd have to be an imbecile if you thought every other Collingwood defender didn't know the ball will be kicked to Fev at every opportunity. Heath Shaw, Goldsack will all peel off their opponents (Carlton forward's who they don't rate) and get in Fev's way. Just like Fletcher who was left to do whatever he wanted and jump in Fev's way at stages.

The ball rebounded from our fifty with ease against the scum; the coaches/players have to ensure Heath Shaw is made accountable and that if Heath has pealed off loose in front of Fev they do not kick the ball to Fevola. The coaches need to get the other forwards in dangerous positions as well as the midfielders having faith in the other forwards.

He has done very well thus far, but as mentioned, Fev's strength is his leading, while his opponents to date have been more contested types.
Accept for Mal Michael, who he (Fev) managed 8 on:thumbsu:.

Austin was drafted as a bottom ager like Gibbs and Sellar because all three players were born in 1989. ;)

I'm not too up to speed on cut off dates with regard to the draft, is the cut off 31 December?

Nathan Brown was born on 17 December 1988, while this may (or may not?) preclude him from being referred to as a 'bottom ager' the fact remains he is only 2 months or so older than Austin.

Who was comparing them as footballers?

Ummm....

Give the bottom age Mark Austin another twelve months and he might be where Brown is at this year.

Unless of course you meant where Brown is at in a non-footballer sense?

Small isn't a word I would use to describe a 6'4" CHB with legs this big at just 19 years of age.

I wouldn't either, I believe tall and athletic were the words I used ;)

Exactly. We cannot allow Heath Shaw to have a free reign in defense - his ability to peel off and help out his other defenders is one of his strengths, not to mention his exceptional run from defense. It might be worth playing a defensive forward on Heath Shaw to minimize his impact, possibly someone like Bannister or even Houlihan who did the job brilliantly on Mcleod last year (although admittedly Mcleod and Shaw are two very different players).

We must pray that Fev leads all night, fev just doesn't play as well when he is in a muscle 1 on 1 contest, he creates more danger and kicks more when he leads and takes marks that way. For the past 3 weeks we have player against teams that have flooded back which has killed Fev's leads...hopefully our mids move the ball quicker like last week to stop that.

It'd be nice to see our coaching group come up with a Plan B for kicking goals, so that we're not so reliant on Fev.

We all know the pies work hard for each other and there is no doubt they will make it hard for Fev by flooding his area ala Richmond and the Saints.

Another marking option up forward would be handy - as far as i've seen we have not once made an organised attempt to exploit the fact that opposition putting 3 blokes on Fev leaves 2 of our blokes loose somewhere.

I'd like 1 or 2 of Edwards, Hartlett, Kreuzer, Cloke or Hammer in our forward area at all times to provide alternatives to Fev. And/or develop our ability to run through the midfield and have our mids kicking a larger number of goals.
