Brown v Varcoe v Thomas

So really only two at most of these guys can be in the finals team, interested to see how people have them rated.

I'd have Thomas first pick as he just takes his chances and kicks goals.

Varcoe second because he can impact the game in three or four moments.

Brown, sadly third. Just think he misses out in the finals. He has improved through the year but with stacked options up forward he is squeezes out given he has only kicked 11 goals from 20 games and he is not strong enough to play finals midfield minutes.

I think the match committee has it Brown, Thomas, Varcoe though.

I think Brown and Thomas win a bit more of the ball, and seem to get more opportunities to score goals. Varcoe can go very quiet, but he can pop up at crucial times with big plays.

Personally, I'd be sticking with all 3 but dropping WHE.

That gives us the 3 mid-size marking types in Elliott, De Goey and Stephenson, and 3 crumbing types. Better balance. Along with the 2 talls in Mihocek and Roughie.

WHE is a great player, but I wonder what his spot is in that set-up. Kind of just floats in and floats out.

and He could also Mess it up with Weird Decision Making at Times

One thing WHE doesn't float in and out of is the Collingwood side. He has never not been picked in the 1s when available. Don't think he has ever played in the VFL?

I wouldn't drop any. Thomas has regained form. I feel we play better with Varcoe and while Brown does not kick as many goals I think he is involved in more and uses the ball very well.

I think Magden goes out and a very stiff Noble goes out. As good as he has been I'm just not sure we need Crisp, Maynard, Greenwood and Noble and if we need to push an extra back WHE can do that as well. Roughy goes back to where he belongs. With this mix Degoey can also spend more time in the middle when we need to impact that area.

Brown was bloody awful early in the season but had a run of good form midseason to a point where he was comfortably justifying his place. However, that form has deserted him and he has been playing very poorly in recent weeks. He is in the worst form, doesn't kick goals and has no finals experience, so should be first on the chopping block.

Varcoe was putrid for nearly all of last season and most of this season until 4 weeks ago. However, he has found something recently and is playing well. I would drop 2 of these guys and keep Wills/Noble in the side so Varcoe would come out, but if we only drop 1 of them, Varcoe should survive the chop for the first final.

Thomas has had a poor season but is playing very well now. He is the best overall player of the three and is in the best form. Should not be dropped. He is important to us, particularly with his habit of scoring important goals (as recently as last week when he had the composure to run all the way in and kick the sealer, while everyone else was choking).

Hard hard selection .

Easiest way out , whichever one of the two plays poorly in first final , they should be replaced by the third . No idea who id play. Feel like JT is a must in, the other two is lineball. Id love to see Brown floating around forward line with the likes of Stevo and De Goey back. Will fit right in nicely

I think Brown has the least hurt factor ball in hand atm so I’d drop him out of the three.

I’d prefer dropping a Madgen or Noble (or both) and move WHE to the backline.

With Degoey & Stepho to come back in I think Wills for Stepho and Brown or Thomas for Stepho.

Varcoe's physicality will save him.

Varcoe easily third. His great pressure prowess is a myth, he’s only okay at it. Brown has surpassed him, as has Stephenson who will be returning for finals. I reckon quite clearly Varcoe has to make way for better players.

I would not be Shocked IF Varcoe Retires at Years End

1. Brown
2. Varcoe
3. Poo on your shoe
4. Tripping on gravel
5. Nazi Germany

6. Thomas

It really comes down to what you rate.

Pressure: Varcoe and Brown
Goalkicking: Varcoe and JT
Ball winning: Brown and JT

In a final I want pressure and ball winning so Brown’s in and JT is the better goalkicker so Varcoe misses. I reckon Roughy moves down back so Madgen makes two who’s the last man without a chair? I’m looking at WHE and Wills with concern.

I really struggle with WHE. He's a liability for 90% of the game then kicks 3 in the other 10%.
