I watched the replay on Fox this morning and I reckon Brown played better than many, including myself, have been giving him credit for, a long long way off our worst player IMO. Made a couple of blues but is certainly not on his pat malone there.
I agree, I thought he improved as the game went on, he just needs to tidy up his disposal, he butchered it too much for my liking.

Watching the game live, he looked very uncomfortable playing on Ballantyne. Just too easily out-foxed.

Tough call really. Not tough as in separating the two but tough on Brown, he is going to be a very good player, trouble is Laird is a dead set gun. An absolute steal of the rookie draft who is a great tackle, fast with clean disposal. To think we got him, Crouch, Brown, Jenkins and Lynch in one fowl swoop. We may look back at that trade and daft the same way Geelong looked back on their 47 F/S picks in the late 90s early 2000s

To be fair Brown has played on Betts, Thomas, Milne, Ballantyne etc. Every week he seems to have a big challenge. I actually think he did quite well on Ballantyne. People have to remember he's playing on good players and is occasionally gonna get beaten in a 1 on 1 contest particularly when his opponent has it kicked to hid advantage. Having said that Brown won his fair share of 1 on 1's and on occasions kept his feet while Ballantyne went to ground.

Laird hasn't played on opponents of the same calibre that Brown has (apart from short periods), but Laird looks great and has the composure of a 100 game player.

Brown has performed solidly. Different sort of player. Laird catches the eye more because Laird does what Brent don't.

There was a couple of occasions but hey he's still a kid, he seemed to correct himself pretty well when he was. Also Balantyne influence was pretty negligible, 1 goal 1, 16 touches at 37% efficiency. The way some have been going on you'd think Balantyne had kicked 6 and been the only reason we lost!

Brown has only played a dozen games or so, we cant make too many judgements until he and Lairdy have played 50 or so games

There's just something about Brown that makes it easy to think he's doing poorly. I don't know what it is but every time I watch the Crows play I think that Brown is doing bad, and then I stop and actually watch him and realise he's doing just fine.

He's got what I like to call "Doughty syndrome". Just looks to be getting smashed then you look at his stats/his opponents and you realise he's actually done pretty well :D

Why Brown v Laird? Both in my 22 - more appropriate would be Reilly v Otten v Shaw (when fit)

Yep........unfortunately most of us remember mistakes quite vividly but we tend to gloss over the good solid everyday plays.

Bump. Both were very good today, and there's a spot in the team for both of them, rotating through the back pocket and the midfield.
