Yep, that was my first thought. ;) So if they give up 12 for Lee, you'd think Brown was worth something of at least similar value. Yes, yes, I know they traded half empty crisp bags as well.

Who cares where Brown has nominated, there would be multiple clubs in Victoria fighting for him now that he is open to a trade. The Eagles will now shop him around and if the contract suits Mitch then he can take it or leave it. We are in a strong position.

Cripps is out of contract so we can afford to give a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him and keep the 2 trades separate.

I agree. While it is a little unsettling to see the amount of players that are suddenly wanting out, I also feel that for once we finally have some genuine bargaining power at the trade table.

Lynch has been a great servant of the club, but we were not going to move forward playing him for 22 games next season.
Swift and Stevens were always on the verge of either making the 22 or dropped. Whilst they offered great depth, if we manage to recruit Wellingham and Cripps, we are ahead in my opinion.

Brown wanting out is a tough one. We all know he would be the obvious replacement for Glass in a year or two. Do we trade him now while we have the upper hand, or do we refuse to trade and risk losing him after next season for nothing? Normally I would be all in for holding him, but with Swift, Stevens, Lynch and Brown wanting out, I feel it is the perfect time to see what the Victorian clubs have to offer and use this year as a semi cleanout of players who are always on the verge of getting games, for some fresh talent that hopefully can push that extra step and actually force their way into the starting 22 on a regular basis.

Pick 12 for Lee? Geez they were desperate werent they. Freo must be kicking themselves they didnt get him last year for practically nothing when they had the chance.

Sounds like St K are definitely who we want to be trading with, I like that idea, Cripps + 24 for Brown. We could even throw in pick 50 something too. Then, maybe we can give Collingwood 24 for Wellingham and draft a better version of Brown with pick 17.

Anyone have Nisbetts no?

Is this realistic?

Brown has to agree and he seems set on St Kilda (as reported, not 100% accurate).

24 and Cripps would be decent return from St Kilda. Not great but a pass, especially if Brown has indeed declared he wants out.

I want to keep Brown, so I'm being very stubborn. ;)

We are in no way obliged to trade Mitch as he is a) contracted and b) required.

Either he stays after 2013 when Glass retires and gets a full time gig, or we trade him next year if he still wants out. As he will be uncontracted more clubs will be keen and we can get value for him then anyway.

Why settle for Cripps and 24 now when he can try to keep him and get something of equal or better value at the end of his contract?

Haven't seen any direct quotes from Brown yet, and only conjecture about what his manager has been saying. So who knows? Maybe it's been blown out of proportion.

How does Free Agency work for Brown next year if he stays?

I know there is the 8 year veteran rule but surely we won't be able to obtain the same value if Brown decides to leave AND is uncontracted?

and he won't be getting regular games ahead of Glass and MacKenzie in 2013 so I don't think we will be able to increase his trade value.
