Its been ridiculous that WA midfielders are slipping through, and turning out to be good players ....palmer, priddis
So glad we took Browne......hard nut, tough kid, super brave, all class![]()
Damn got beaten to itSteven Browne = Andrew Mackay
Mail room fantasies that way -------- >>>>>in other news ... i heard the postman is a good postman
Super impressive. 14 touches (6 contested) and a goal in the 1st half. You can just see this kid is all class.
GUN!!!!
Can't argue with that. How comfortable has he looked out there? Outside of Murph in 2006, this kid has looked as assured on the ground as any Carlton 1st year player over the last few years. I think we have a good one here.
I am a fan, was really hoping we got him but it wasn't to beMaking a bit of a mockery of Wiseby's rating of him at this stage. I've got to agree with Hughes and co. How in the world did this guy drop through to our second pick?![]()
LOL this post was read out last night by the postman on Finey's show ..
Your a star MS !!!![]()
CARLTON rookie Steven Browne has predicted a period of sustained success is just around the corner for the Blues after the club’s 37-point win over the West Coast Eagles at Subiaco.
Nineteen-year-old Browne said the young Carlton side had shown maturity to stay focused on the task of defeating the Eagles rather than be caught up in the intense media hype surrounding the return to Perth of its opponent's former captain Chris Judd.
It was a homecoming for Browne, too, who played football with West Perth in the WAFL and represented the WA under-18s side before being taken at pick 36 in the 2007 National AFL Draft.
"It’s a good experience just to come home and be able to have your family and friends come along to watch," he said.
"It was also a bit of a strange feeling playing against the team that I followed as a kid and to run around against [Eagle] Chris Masten, who I played with in the under-18s."
Browne said the team didn’t realise how big the local media build-up to Judd’s return game had been until they landed in Perth.
"There was not really that much coverage of it in Melbourne but once we got here it was pretty full-on," he said.
"But it didn’t distract us and Chris played a role in that. He’s an awesome guy and he doesn’t get carried away with any of that and so he just went his own way like he always does."
After a solid debut against Adelaide last week, Browne backed-up with 19 possessions against West Coast.
"Last week in the first quarter I was running around like a headless chook just trying to find the ball," he said.
"But in the second quarter I found the tempo of the game and just got a few touches which got my confidence up. I just and just kept going with that this week.
"For me it’s important to contribute to the side and make sure I play well enough to make the team each week.
"From the club’s point of view, we know we’ve got a talented group of young guys and if we keep working at it we can develop into an awesome force over the next few years.
"It’s pretty simple, we just have to keep at it and you never know what’s just around the corner."
I might have forgotten, but when did Hughes say they couldn't believe Browne lasted to pick 36?Making a bit of a mockery of Wiseby's rating of him at this stage. I've got to agree with Hughes and co. How in the world did this guy drop through to our second pick?![]()
I might have forgotten, but when did Hughes say they couldn't believe Browne lasted to pick 36?
Browne has a bigger leap than McKay and doesn't mind backing himself to take a grab.
Anderson and Browne give us two good options to cover the players who usually burn us.![]()
he was very quiet tonight. i hope he holds his place. So there were 35 footballers taken before Browne in the last draft?
Browne has the poise, composure, skill, balance, speed and the decision making to make it as a footballer.
I can see Browne replacing Bentick in the side.
He nearly marked a ball running back with the flight in a very brave effort for a first year player.
Browne reminds me of Murphy with his balanced running style (low centre of gravity) and ability to hit Fevola lace out on the lead.
