Yeah but umpires are idiots. A panel of 50 astute experts would be much better

Really? No one outside Victoria would win it.

So many experts have no idea and don't watch the non Victorian teams. The teams that play the most Friday games would have a huge advantage.

I have seen nothing from guys like Jack Riewoldt or Eddie Betts to suggest they would do a better job.

I thought Rowell had a outstanding year. I don't think it's that bigger surprise, it's just so many presumed Daicos would win it.

If you played SuperCoach and/or AFL Fantasy .....people would realise Rowell was indeed a better chance last night for the Brownlow .....far better than Naicos's season ....and Dawson's (who btw cost me a top 100 finish)

Rowell's back 2/3 of the season were superb & consistent .....a very worthy winner

Naicos realistically only had an average season .....was tagged in many games, and carried injuries
4 x 3 votes in the first 5 rounds was the difference, not the final 2/3

Yes, that surprised me a bit too, although IIRC I brought Rowell into my SC side about R7 ...so I knew he had some big games behind him, and his game style changed so much from that of 2024 .....he was carrying the ball so much more, which obviously caught the umpire's eye

Like the All Australian? I just don't think it would make it any better. And I don't think a single group can't watch every game.

Each expert wouldn’t have to watch every game. 2 experts and the umpires for each game. That way they rotate through teams and it keeps the umps involved, but not as the sole arbiters.

I think Curtin got hyped up from a fairly small number of games where he was very good. Outside of that he was reasonably quiet with moments in games. Wasn't an overly strong year for rising star voting.

Langford had a slightly better year IMO, Curtin the best few game patch. Wonder if there can be an unconscious bias against 2nd year players too. Anyway, not anything worth worrying about when our own senior coach torpedos our performance regularly.

If you start using AFL fantasy as a measure of a players worth, you end up with the stat padders becoming the winners of excellence awards... like the Brownlow.

That game is purely the analysis of scoring points for each statistical impact on the game. It does not even attempt to recognise the best players beyond their stat sheet. It's fun to play and it helps to understand teams and players beyond the Crows, but it's quantitative nature (which is easier to count) often overlooks the real value of players.

Rowell is deserved of his Brownlow. He was great all year and looked like peak Dangerfield for most of it. But his best mate Noah might consider himself stiff as their combination (with Miller too) helped Matt win this award. Just like Josh Worrell and Mark Keane helped us become minor premiers.

The current Brownlow is a failed exercise to recognise the best players.

Maybe we should just let champion data do the judging?

She's been a Geelong girl all her life.

She was just making a personal comment and didn't show much professionalism. Mistake by her I agree. A bad comment however without the context.
Not a bad comment at all . Totally unprofessional. Was rubbish

Won 18 games, and the team received 93 out of a possible 144 votes.

Make of that what you will. We always seem to cop a lack of votes in a winning side.
Because we don't have any elite midfielders.

Dawson and Rankine are elite players having to pull above their weight.

None of our other mids would get a game for the two grand final sides this week. Soligo might make the emergency list.

I agree with this .....which is why SC is the superior mechanism for evaluating impact on games

Rowell's SC impact was far superior to his Fantasy impact

Nah, Anderson is the stats padder, and is the player who performs well in wins .....struggles in losses & and easily taken out of games

I'm not saying Anderson's a poor player, he had a very good year ....but I'd even have Touk Miller slightly edging Anderson out on game impact, particularly the 2nd half of the season ....but that is certainly arguable

You want my hot take for next year ?

Remember this when he wins the Brownlow next season

It’s clearly an inside mid award

Calling it now 2026;

- inside mid

- new coach bounce

- softer draw

- FA contract year

- will be out to increase his $$ so will lift to another level

He polled very well given the games he missed

True but it's a thin field. I just feel if Daicos won there wouldn't be anywhere near the outrage. Most of that is because Collingwood are constantly in the media and playing big games.

Clearly there were some poor voting but I think you get that with any system.

Imagine thinking Supercoach is the measure of a gun player. Hugh McCluggage and Gawn robbed of the award and it's a travesty that Lachie Ash only got 7 votes
