That's the problem with blokes being untrustworthy and corruptible. There's another asterisk next to Cripps' name in the Moral Accounting Version of Brownlow History now.

It's got more taint that a John Stagliano fillum.

Now that’s hilarious 😂

Still has nothing to do with my 2nd sentence

And really, the betting scandal seems to be information given about individual games and who got the votes, rather than if the player was worthy of the votes
Still doesnt dismiss the fact that the 3 goals scored by Cripps, was after Freo secured control of the game.

The integrity of the umpire who assigned the votes for this game is brought into question, so yes a player being deemed worthy of votes is an issue here. Especially more so from a losing side that lost by almost 6 goals.

Correct.

The integrity of the umpire assigned for this game and who awarded the votes is a major consideration.

No it's not, a player getting 3 votes, for being the best player on the ground, is separate from who won the game

I mean, the Dockers coach gave Cripps the maximum votes too, are we questioning his integrity?

Amazingly dumb of him to leak votes in his very first year as ump. Especially when it's all drilled into them that leaking votes is a big no no. Nice way to throw away a career just so your mates can win a few grand
Its incredible to imagine when you consider all the issues just a few years back with Stephenson and betting, this umpire goes ahead and divulges confidential information to a unauthorized 3rd party.

It is, when you consider that in over 95% of the time, the winning team has the player that has 3 votes when there is a margin of almost 6+ goals.

Sorry the Coaches votes and Umpire votes are completely two different beasts.

You don’t think 32 disposals and 3 goals could put a player in that 5%?

So Longmuir thought Cripps was best on ground, along with Voss, yet that doesn’t add weight to (3) umpires agreeing with both coaches?

Pell was giving information as to who got what votes, not that he supposedly had more power and influence over who actually got the votes

It does in a way. Go to any pub in South Australia and you would find it pretty hard to find a rundown shithole as most places have had signinficant refurbs done from pokie money.
A rare privately owned pub might benefit but shaq won’t be spending his thirty mil a year in Aus.
A lot of pubs are owned by multi nationals now and they refurb to draw you in for a slap or punt like a casino having a marble stair case and nice eateries.

Im sorry his integrity is a massive issue and with that fallout comes his ability to assign votes for the game.

Look I also think Cripps should have got votes in R1, I am being objective here.

I don’t think the umpires are focusing on who is best on ground over the 120 minutes of an AFL game.

It is likely an afterthought which is why it can throw up some odd results.

The umpires have their award just like the coaches, just like the players, just like Triple M/Channel 9/Herald Sun. You don’t have to care for it.
Of the 120 min what's an acceptable amount of time for their minds to be elsewhere. 5 minutes? 2 minutes? Answer should be 0.

Even if it's only a moment here and there, with the rule book swelling to the size of Texas compared to what it was when umpires first started giving votes, the addition of also thinking about who's playing well or not is well past its used by. Just worry about getting half the calls right which would be a huge improvement on recent times. The award would still be fine.

Forget about the 3 goals because Freo had secured control of the game by that stage.

Plenty of players get 30+ disposals in the losing team all the time but dont get the 3 votes, especially when the losing margin is 30+ points, if the game was close sure, I would have no issue.

I mean Cripps did it against the Crows in which they lost also, interesting that he got 3 votes here as well.

Think the most important factor you are missing, Pell wasn't assigning his own votes, it's a collaboration of all 3 umpires.

So unless information comes out that other umpires were pressured to change their thoughts on the 3 2 1, and actually did change their mind, I don't see it as an issue at all

Yet it wasn't the same umpire in our game against the Crows

They wouldn’t be thinking about it during the game. Only after.

I didnt say it was.

I just mentioned how Cripps got ~40 disposals in a losing time that lost by almost 5 goals got 3 votes over players that really won the game for the Crows.

Yes, if you forget about the crucial part of his game that most likely earned him the three votes, he probably didn’t deserve the three votes.

Great analysis.

Sorry but that's just rubbish to suit your narrative. Of course they're going to be thinking about it here and there if they have to give votes in an hour or whatever.

Thats right, I didnt think he did deserve the three votes in the Freo game.

Im not biased because in R1 I thought he should have got votes. Its called having a balance and seeing a situation without an inherent bias.

You are missing the main components of the betting scandal

It didn't matter who got the votes, it was more about betting on the players that got the votes.

If anything, the payout, for a player that had average stats getting 3 votes, would have had a larger profit/odds.

Not at all, Im seeing it very clearly and importantly without any inherent bias.

An umpire whose integrity has been brought into question here and therefore the fallout of that is his decision making process.

If Pell comes out and says that he gave Cripps the 3 votes when he didnt think he deserved them, are you comfortable for Cripps to lose the Brownlow?

I don’t have a narrative. I believe umpires go out to umpire, coaches go out to coach, players go out to play.

Votes by all parties can be done as an afterthought.

I guess you believe Justin Longmuir is unbalanced? That he is part of the Cripps conspiracy?

Not at all, as I have said on here before, many a times the coaches votes does not marry up with the umpire votes.

Im not saying Cripps didnt have a good game or shouldnt get votes, I felt he shouldnt have got he 3 votes in a 6 goal loss.
