Re: Brownlow Medal 2011 (Part 1)

Does anyone remember if the Group Votes include ineligible players?
.
Pretty sure they are as I seem to remember Franklin and Bolton were in groups last year and ineligable

Re: Brownlow Medal 2011 (Part 1)

No clear cut votes in this one:

I liked Cox, Shuey, Waters, Le Cras, and Broughton. In that order.

Very hazy though, Cox probs did enough for 3.

Tough game to pick - I've gone with:

3. D. Cox
2. L. Shuey
1. S. Hill / M. LeCras / B. Waters

Broughton with 5 FAs unlucky to miss out.

Re: Brownlow Medal 2011 (Part 1)

CAn anyone tell me if Pendles odds have moved at all after this wend (TAB)? and what Franklins odds are now for the Coleman?

After TAB.com was in the Top 10 accessed sites at work they have blocked everything to do with gambling

much appreciated

Pendles still on $9.00. Franklin for Coleman from $2.25 in to $1.60.

Cloke out to $9.00 for Coleman :( You can do it big fella!

Re: Brownlow Medal 2011 (Part 1)

Some votes from the weekend:

Blues v Dons

3. Judd - clear BOG
2. Betts - 8 goals
1. Murphy - big second half

Apologies to: Hurley (BOG for Dons)

Hawks v Dees

3. Mitchell - Would be Sewell or Mitchell. Mitchell just seemed cleaner in his disposals.
2. Sewell
1. Hodge - Solid all day and kicked 2

Apologies: Rioli and Franklin

Re: Brownlow Medal 2011 (Part 1)

A few bets i will put on tonight

Pendles/Franklin/Pies GF win

Judd/Franklin/Pies GF win

Pendles/Franklin/Hawks to make GF

Judd/Franklin/Hawks to make GF

Pendles/Cloke/Hawks to make GF

Judd/Cloke/Hawks to make GF

As much as the 1 could go to LeCras or even Waters I don't see the Eagles polling all 6 votes in a 1 point game. Broughts was at the bottom of packs all day and despite 5 frees against had 4 frees for as well. Didn't see him back chat at all either. Hill or Clarke would be the only other Dockers to challenge for a vote, but I don't know if they did enough. Hill did some good things but nothing amazing apart from his brilliant 1st goal. Clarke really stood up in the last and laid 10 tackles including that brilliant chase down of Cox, but again probly not enough. I dunno... raffle really I spose.

Having said that, I watched the game lying down sick as a dog so memory could be a little hazy :p

Re: Brownlow Medal 2011 (Part 1)

Does anyone know if the umpires are aware of game-day medal winnners before or after they give their votes? And who decides who the game-day medal winner is? Would love to know the correlation between game-day medal winners and 3-vote games if anyone has that info? I have Fyfe down for the 3 yesterday however if game-day medal winners always poll 3 votes then I'd want to change that up.

Anyway for now I have

3. N Fyfe (2.5)
2. D Cox (2.5)
1. L Shuey (1)

Fyfe was everywhere in the fourth when the game was on the line, his goal and inside 50s were a highlight and going by last year I think he's likely to poll well this year. Cox was BOG over four quarters imo, however his lack of polling last year and with Fyfe's flashy brand of footy I can see him falling just short of Fyfe in this one. Shuey was good all day, kicked one in the fourth and I can't see anyone else beating him to the last vote of the weekend, although Waters did play a very courageous game.

Re: Brownlow Medal 2011 (Part 1)

Good discussion fellas. Probably the hardest game of the round to decide the votes for as it's pretty easy to make a case for 6 or 7 players.

I'll be sticking with Cox / Shuey for the 3 and 2, and give the 1 some more thought for now :)

Hmm I didn't actually put much consideration into that - very good point. I just made a blind assumption that they'd vote after the medal was announced.

As for Fyfe, I wonder if my love for him let me assume everything he did was just expected of him. He did stand up when he needed to in the 4th and is bloody flashy. Could be an interesting one for peoples freo team votes? (I don't get to watch enough footy to have my own count).

They were my thoughts on the game, however it was a very tough game to decide the votes in so it could go anyway really!!!!

I remember watching a video about an umpires match day activities, and in the video one of the AFL umps mentioned they spent up to half an hour talking about who to give the Brownlow votes to. Also at the end of every quarter they discuss it amongst themselves..

As for yesterdays match, I didn't watch the last quarter (only saw the first half) and Fyfe was pretty quiet, his second half would've had to have been huge for him to poll....

Re: Brownlow Medal 2011 (Part 1)

lol there is absolutely no chance of Fyfe polling more than 1 vote and even that would be completely undeserved. Cox and Shuey were clearly the best 2 on the ground over the 4 qtrs. Glass was probably best on in the first half but didn't get much of it in the 2nd half.
3-Cox/Shuey
2-Cox/Shuey
1-LeCras/Hill/Waters/Kennedy

What did people get for the Geelong Richmond game?

Pretty certain the medal winners have a very high % chance of polling the 3 votes. However I remember there was abit of discussion of a Derby game last year where Ballatyne was a clear BOG but Sandilands was awarded the RG Medal.

On brownlow night, it follows.

3 - H.Ballatyne
2 - A.Sandilands (Medal)

I'm not overly too concern with other players polling the 1 / 2 votes as it will play no effective result post Round 24. I'm abit (tiny bit) weiry of Cox taking out WCE, however the pricing deviation of current BL winner between Cox 13$ / Priddis 51$ just doesnt sit right.

Re: Brownlow Medal 2011 (Part 1)

I watched bits and pieces of the WCE v Freo game.

The 5 players that stood out were:
Cox, Shuey, Glass, Fyfe and Broughton.

I'd rate Fyfe's game above Broughton for impact.
I thought Glass was amazing in the first half but quieter in the second.
Cox was prominent without being game breaking.
Shuey was in and under all day and kicked an important goal in the last.

Overall:
3. Cox
2. Shuey
1. Glass

Fyfe extremely unlucky to miss a vote

for the geelong v richmond game I had,

3-christensen
2-kelly
1-corey

tough to give as their was a lot of good geelong players but no real outstanding ones. (scarlett, duncan, selwood, stokes)

Even though cotchin had 38 possessions, I didn't rate his game nor deledio's or tuck's

since 2000 using showdown medals, glendinning medals and anzac day medals as data, 64% of medallists have polled 3 brownlow votes, 26% have polled 2 brownlow votes, while the rest polled 1. The only player to have won a medal but not polled was Chad Fletcher in the derby r21 2004 despite having 38 touches, about 15 more than any other eagles player in the game. very rare result that one.

have yet to watch the last quarter of wc/fre but thought shuey was best on up to that point. have to think cox is most likely for the 3 though based on those stats.

will post my votes for this game tomorrow, would have to think a dockers player will sneak in a vote most likely instead of Glass i'd say, given it was such a close match and the dockers had the lead for periods of the game. its a general trend to expect votes from both sides in a game like this. fyfe should probably sneak one.

Re: Brownlow Medal 2011 (Part 1)

will watch the derby again tomorrow but just looking over the stats, does barlow come in to calculation? highest possession winner for the dockers with broughton, kicked a nice goal. broughton also given he won 14 cont poss, 5 clearances and 4 frees for/5 against, he would have been standing out to the umps, always in the play.

will watch again tomorrow could be important with a few suggesting fyfe is a chance and the impact that may have in his battle with pav for freo's votes.

Nice :thumbsu:.

If Fyfe polls I think he will easily win Freo's count. This is the type of game where if the umpires like Fyfe they could justify giving him any amount of votes but if he is not the 'umpire favourite' that some are predicting it could also be justified not giving him any votes.

Re: Brownlow Medal 2011 (Part 1)

first time i've been back this year on bf, had a rather fun brownlow night last season as a few around here did. been doing my own count again this season and i'm planning on posting a lot more as the season finishes. like dr.awkward's count so far and how he goes about it. :thumbsu: looking forward to some constructive discussion!
