Lachie Neale currently sits at $1.25 for the Brownlow Medal. I am not an avid better so I am curious to know if anyone has had a price as low as that and not won?

I mean I would not be surprised if another player pipped him on the night given the umpires have proven in the past to cast votes in matches to players who have not done much.

Who else is a realistic chance? Travis Boak? Christian Petracca?

Could someone from 50/1 odds or even greater be a surprise winner on the night?

depends on how well Neale polls early

At $26 I reckon Bont is worth a dabble. He is going to poll extremely well in the run home and we know he can poll well

Has a player this short, ever NOT won the Brownlow before? (not referring to his height either).

Only thing that worries me about Bont's chances is actually someone not being spoken about much this year - Libba. Not played a single bad game, and has been instrumental in our games this year. Really is the barometer of our side - we are 10-5 with him this year. Can honestly see him, Hunter, Macrae and even Daniel snagging a lot of votes that Bont may otherwise have had. As good as Bont has been, I can't really see anyone getting too close to Neale this year.

Best chance is Boak and possibly Bont as a real outsider

I don't believe anyone's ever lost paying that little.

Dusty won at $1.10 odd, which was never in doubt.

Tom Mitchell won at around $1.60 I think - I was more confident in Mitchell then than I am in Neale this year. I think he'll hold in, but both Boak and Petracca have been far better in the past 5-6 weeks imo.

Can understand the value of both Libba and Daniel, but I don't think they're Brownlow types - especially Daniel.

Macrae obviously will steal a few (and could even win Dogs count), Hunter too.

As others have said, Neale will need to poll well early - which i fully expect him to do - otherwise Boak may be able to pinch it given a good run of form later in the season.

Daniel doesn't have the history of gathering votes, but he's been spoken about a lot more in the media lately, which can lead to increased awareness of his game from the umpires. He won't get anywhere near the top end (wouldn't even say top 20-30) but has had a few massive games that could see him gathering a handful of votes at the expense of Bont.

Libba is having one of his best seasons ever, and plays right in the guts, so could be getting some here and there too. Again, won't be accumulating a large amount, but could be enough to bring Bont down.

Hunter and Macrae always get noticed by the umpires - main reason I brought up Libba is because he hasn't really been a factor in the last few years. Although on the other hand, Dunkley being out most of the year could help Bont compared to what happened in 2019 where Dunkley ended up in the top 20

How many games is Neale likely to have votes taken off him by teammates though? Usually when the hype train around a player gets rolling, umpires pretty much default to throwing them a vote or two in games where there isn't necessarily a standout player.

Yeah, good point. Zorko & Lyons will pinch a few, but you're right that it's not as big a threat as others.

He's obviously paying $1.25 for a reason, too.

I just hope it's a bit closer for the excitement factor.

3: Daniel Rich
2: Sam Walsh
1: Callum Ah Chee

They were my votes upon watching Carlton versus Brisbane, but the commentators had the biscuits out for Neale and they were soggy as.

Hopefully, the TV event will be a lot shorter this year rather than the three hours plus of unnecessary drawn out saga that it has become.

I think Daniel will be like Jake Lloyd or Rory Laird - big accumulators out of the back half, great players, but they just don't seem to poll. Just my opinion of course, my Sportsbet history will tell you I've been wrong about the Brownlow many times before.

Dunkley's the big one for me, he polled 15 last year after a very quiet start. He'll be one of a few roughies I get on early next year. Having him not pinching votes could be big for Bont. I think ultimately Bont & Macrae will cost each other though - I think Bont will be around top 5, Macrae maybe top 15.

A small silver lining right? Hopefully they fly through it.

I don't mind the small break/s to announce the GOTY & MOTY just to break it up a bit - but mostly the rest of it is absolute garbage.

I wouldn't rule Dusty out entirely.

If the award was for a consistent season he'd be no chance, but while many games were merely 'OK' there have also been a fair number of games where he's really stood up and would likely get the 3 votes.

Probably not enough to get him there, but a bit of name recognition, etc would probably see him get the nod in some close games as well, so I wouldn't be too surprised if he ends up near the top.

Jack Steele may be a chance but I think most of his votes will come at the back end of the season when people started to notice how well he was playing. Unfortunately he didn't have a profile at the start of the season and previous years have shown that you need a really strong profile to be seen on the field
