In my opinion this will be the top 10 in this year's brownlow medal. As most people would think Nathan Buckley should win it this year but as for the other nine it might be very close.

1. Nathan Buckley
2. Wayne Carey
3. Anthony Koutafides
4. Scott Camporeale
5. James Hird
6. S. Woewodin
7. Scott West
8. Mark Ricciuto
9. Michael Voss
10. Shane Crawford (huge finish in 2000)

What do you think?

That would be Careys best effort yet, but I doubt very much the white maggets would be able to live with themselves. It might mean that got close to showing no bias against the greatest ever.

I watched this champion take 16 grabs, have 30+ poccession and kick 8 goals, from CHF and still only get 2 F.....g votes off the maggets, no wonder I doubt a finish as high as second.

Carey will finish nineth or tenth, but win the AFLPA most valuable player award for the third time.

and you never know, but I think Wayne would prefer a Norm Smith anyway.

The reason why a few players continually don't amass a lot of Brownlow votes is because its the Best and Fairest, not just the best. I would say thats why the players who really are terrific eg Carey, who use their physical presence and demenour will never when the Brownlow over a player such as Hird, Voss, Crawford, who use their skills not their bodies.
You can't continually push , shove, hit the opposition and be considered fair. basic fact of footy.

I'd throw Dustin Fletcher in there as a smokey and throw Carey out. He's played brilliant seasons before and hardly got a mention so I don't think the ump's are going to change their mind.
My tip is for Hird to finish just behind Buckley, Both playing bloody good football at the moment.

In my opinion Hird and Fletch are up against it - too many players taking votes off them.

Carey, great player that is, still is a thug. Hasn't stopped other dirty/ overly physical players winning the big one... Lockett, Dipper (!!!), Libba (!!!!!!!!!!), Wanganeen (!!!) and of course the mega-cheat GW (!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TWICE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

Bucks will go very close as not too many will take votes off him. That said in my opinion Voss and Hird are both a level above Buckley because of their pinpoint use of the ball and team awareness.

Agree Kouta and Campo will also go close.

PS> Just saw the AFL highlights tape of last round - still cannot believe that goal from Voss... I remember Blight's goal which was possibly further but this one went through post height! Amazing stuff.

Dutchman are you talking about the AFL's complete bollocks of a highlights program that is on C5 at 5am and Sky on Saturdays?

I presume you are but if you know of any other ways to get hold of copies of games in London (like a "name a game" outlet) that I don't know about I would appreciate it.

The AFL's highlights program is the worst piece of marketing I have EVER SEEN!!!! Don't they want the game to be popular overseas?

Couldn't agree more HF.

Personally I get quite a few tapes sent over by family and sympathetic mates... but I'm afraid their all bomber games so probably not all that interesting to you!

Don't know of any other sources other than the Walkabout on GF day - pretty average huh?

Despit Buckley, Carey and Hird dominating this year, if I know the umpires voting, and lets be honest, who does? my tip would be someone in a successful team, that has started the year well and can keep up the form on a consistant basis at the end of the year.

My Tip, Shane Woewodin of Melbourne

Why?, Williams and A. Rocca will take votes from Buckley, and the lack of recent success will have him get 1s not 3s.

Carey will never win one because as was pointed out, he has dominated seasons before and hardly rated a mention.

What are the odds of Hird and Voss tying again? not as far fetched as it may seem,

A smokey would be Steven King of Geelong, dominated early when Geelong were winning and has kept up his form of recent times, probably 2nd or 3rd best on Saturday against Hawthorn

Well i think we can cancel Nathan Buckley out of Brownlow contention after his disgraceful act on Duncan Kellaway. If he doesn't get at least a week, Chris Grant will have means to appeal and get a retrospective Brownlow.

Gocatsgo, Must be joking, as if they would suspend pretty boy.

Do you get any votes, if all you do is run around slagging of at your team mates? ask Buckley, he has been favorite before, hasn't he?

1. Chris Grant is a LOT "prettier" than FIGJAM.

2. Outside smokey - Ben Cousins - great year so far in a very inconsistent team with no a lot of folk to take votes of him.... and he's Crawford/ Hird pretty....

You mentioned Crawf.

He is having a slow start but thiis did happen in 1999 also. His huge finish to the season was the thing which won the brownlow.

It could be the same will happen again - but will other Hawks be better this year and 'take' brownlow votes from him ?

Dutchy- I'd love to see Couso win a Brownlow (hey- that rhymes!), but not this year. We are a team that (as a rule) never does well in the Brownlow, other than Roo Matera. Ben is having a pretty good season, but I'm sure he'll have better. Besides, Kempy, Scotty (Rd4 & 6) and Wirra will take votes off him.
He is a future Brownlow medallist though....

(and does 'attract' votes)

This year..... Buckley

or Carey

Either way it'd be well deserved I guess.

Yes Cousins in the future but not this year.
But the Brownlow has already being decided, its round Kouta's neck hes been awesome and doesnt look like slowing down which is bad really cos we've got Carlton this week.

2000 the year of the Eagle

Shane Woewodin will win the Brownlow for sure - wait and see. He is truly the best mid-fielder in the competition! Brad Green would be a big chance for the Nowrich Rising Star too!

From your list...
1. Buckley - has not done enough since Collingwood started losing to win. Has also missed through injury. Is not playing very fairly this season. Has played some very bad matches. Can not get the three when Collingwood lose every week.

2. Carey - is a whinger, treats the umpires like dirt and also has not starred in enough games to win votes. History tells us that no matter how well he plays he doesn't win.

3. Koutoufides - My winner. Has played a magnificent season and from my calculations could have a possible 25 Brownlow votes by now. Is leading most media awards.

4. Camporeale - Had a dip in form a couple of weeks ago. Koutoufides has stolen the limelight and quite possibly his Brownlow votes. Is also a whinger.
5. Hird - The golden boy. Umpires love him. Unfortunately has missed games through injury and the excellent form of all the mighty Bombers will have taken away some threes.
6. Woewodin - Will not win but is a smoky for a top three finish. Melbourne's up and down form will not help his chances.
7. West - Also smoky for top three. Bulldogs patchy form won't help. Is not the skilful and flashy type, therefore will not get enough votes to win.
8. Ricciuto - Adelaide's horror start to season and his recent dip in form will ruin his chances.
9. Voss - Another one to miss out because of teams bad form. Yet like James Hird, he is a golden boy of umpiring because he is a former winner.
10. Crawford - Would be lucky to have 3 Brownlow votes at this stage. Atrocious form will see him drop to about 20th. Hawthorn's form has been better than his this year. A shame.
Smokies - Dustin Fletcher, yet he will not win because teams performance is too even and he is a fullback, therefore umps will not notice him.
Mark Mercuri - Will not win because he has missed matches and teams performance is too evenly spread.

Why Koutoufides will win-
For the same reason that Crawford one last year. His performances influence matches, matchwinner. People are talking about his great form like they did Shane last year so even when he wasn't brilliant, just good, he still gets the three. Carlton are also winning more than Hawks did last year which will work in his favour. Is not a whinger. Plays fairly. Stands out more than the others mentioned. Teammates such as Ratten will not threaten him because Ratten is not a big vote getter. Allan has had a reasonable year, but is now injured. Brown has not played. Camporelale as afore mentioned is a whinger. Bradley has not been anywhere near as influential as he has.

My top 10-
Koutoufides, Woewodin, Fletcher, Buckley, Hird, Camporeale, Mercuri, West, Ricciuto, Voss.

Just my opinion.
