Port:
Wines: 36
Boak: 25
Amon: 11
Houston: 5
Butters: 1
Gray: 1
= 79 total votes over 4 players
outside top 2 = 18 votes over 4 players

Western Bulldogs:
Bont: 33
Macrae: 14
Smith: 8
Treloar: 7
Liberatore: 4
Dunkley: 3
= 69 over 6 players
outside top 2: 22 over 4

That's not big enough of a gap to say 'that's why port can't win'
Boak is just so one dimensional
If you could honestly tell me you'd have him over any of the top 5 in Melbourne or Bulldogs all "power" to you
He gets votes because they win and he's as honest as the day is long

Bont gets votes for sneezing, Brownlow is never a fair indicator of who has been the best player all year. AFLPA MVP or the Coaches Award is always more indicative.
Plus votes 1-5 gives an appropriate spread of votes.
We saw far more suns players poll in the coaches votes than Brownlow this year.
Very top heavy at the moment in the Brownlow.

This is one of the reasons I describe it as a curiosity show
I think the umpires get anxious if Bont Wines Fyfe Clayton etc don't figure in their 1-3 so they throw them in knowing no-one's really going to question it
And could they really vote down to 6?
Don't think so
They should be concentrating on getting a couple more decisions right in a game rather than scoring a teachers' pet award
I'm torn on the Coaches award.
I reckon the losing coach rarely sends votes to his own players
I know I wouldn't

The coaches association MVP carries more weight than a Brownlow these days to be honest. It's at least voted on fairly.

probably right....but what does that have to do with Umpires focusing on their main job, which is to umpire games, first and foremost, instead of awarding votes on something outside of their job description....
The whole system of Brownlow voting is out of whack...
