Sorry not berating umpires more the media for promoting non football contentYou're asking umpires to figure out the best player in the game when they can't come to a consensus on the holding the ball rule, deliberate out of bounds, staging for free kicks etc., the whole thing is not worth watching

Brownlows were better when someone other than a midfielder polled votes.
Oh and for gods sake - when a guy has an unbeatable lead with a couple of rounds to go, don't halt proceedings and get a fwit like NepoHame to awkwardly straddle the player's table and congratulate them on winning the medal before the count has even finished.
For gods sake - just wait a couple of minutes - let the room soak in a bit of excitement - the murmurs, the pats on the back and knowing glances etc.
You don't need to immediately say 'OH LOOK HE CAN'T BE CAUGHT NOW! HE'S GOING TO WIN! CONGRATULATIONS! ok on with the count in a ridiculously fast paced fashion!'
Just shut the f up for a minute and finish the count.
When did it turn into a fashion show?
I hate the projected totals. “Here we have player A leading the count and projected to get 12 votes in the last 5 games, while player B who’s in second place is projected to get 5”
Ruins any sort of interest or excitement.
Matches the 30 second attention span of the world now. God forbid you finish the count first. It's actually so weird how they do this.
I don't work in television, but if I was producing the broadcast, I'd want to avoid speaking to the confirmed winner until he's standing up on the stage. Surely you'd want to build up the anticipation to that moment and keep your viewers hooked.
Instead, they throw a microphone in their face every year and ask them pointless questions they could simply wait 5 minutes for.
It's genuinely bizarre.
The move to an eighteen team comp has exacerbated this. Talent spread further, which in turn heightens the gap between the elite and the next few who will take votes off them.I agree on that - i understand that some appreciate the close analysis but I think that would be the minority actually tuning in (footy nerds are not the majority) - they could still talk about projected totals but limit it to speaking about how close the player is to reaching the projection, rather than specifically focusing on the game by game breakdown.
It's tough - the entire thing is putting lipstick on a pig. The count has always been tedious, at least in the past it was somewhat 'mysterious' (I guess?).
Either way, it's changed days, 20 years ago Benny Cousins had an OUTSTANDING season in a ladder leading team and rightfully won the medal....with 20 votes.
Good enough for =14th in this years count...
