As a way of saving money, (and boredom) maybe they should go back to the original way - have the whole thing in private and ring the winner.

Why not have functions across Australia to accomadate the interstate teams?? I can't understand why it is totally necessary to have everyone in the same place when we have the ability to use video link ups, etc etc. It also gives the football public in each state a better chance to experience being at the Brownlow Medal.

Leave it on the Monday of Grand Final week.

Cheers!!

Given the noise in the Brisbane room, the clubs could probably earn a little bit on teh night selling entry to supporters. Mind you the Vic clubs wouldn't be happy missing out on that sort of action.

I agree SeinDude. I don't think having the Brisbane people at a seperate function took anything away from the night. The Brownlow's a TV event, and as long as TV cameras are able to cross from one function to another it doesn't make any difference where they have it.
In Sydney the Swans have a very expensive Brownlow function which they use as a club fundraiser. And if the Swans were to be playing in a grand final the next week, it would be better for the Swans players be able to go from training to that function than have to fly down to Melbourne for the Melbourne function and then have to stay in Melbourne overnight before flying back to Sydney on the Tuesday and back to Melbourne again on the Friday morning. Too disruptive.

the only thing that hurt the brisbane coverage was the lighting used up there. it really did look like they were crossing to the amateur hour.

I have always thought the AFL should have one monster show about a week after the Grand Final. The Premiership team for that year would be guests of honour and presented to the footy public. Then they could do the Brownlow Count, and after that announce the Team of the Year, and any other awards.
This would give ALL players the chance to let their hair down and enjoy a wonderful evening. I've always felt sorry for the players of the two teams at the Brownlow count, sitting there sipping orange juice while the players of the other 14 clubs rage.
And then a player like Simon Black wins it, he can't celebrate because he is focused on playing in the GF.
If I won a Brownlow, I'd want to party!!!
