Here's some interesting stats from tonight's Brownlow count. The stats are made up of the team's total Brownlow tally with the amount of players per team who polled. Note: The Pies finished 11th in the team tally.

1. Geelong 106 Votes -16 players polled
2. Port Adelaide 89/16
3. West Coast 82/14
4. Hawks 78/12
5. Roos 78/12
6. Swans 77/16
7. Adelaide 73/15
8. Brisbane 70/16
9. St. Kilda 68/10
10. Freo 65/15
11. Pies 55/11
12. Essendon 53/10
13. Doggies 48/10
14. Melbourne 43/13
15. Carlton 39/8
16. Richmond 33/9

Strangely, the top 7 teams were the same teams who ended up in the final 8 except the pies who finished 6th at the end of the H&A season (4th after the finals), but could only manage 11th in the Brownlow. I don't really know if it means anything other than the obvious, the umpires don't give recognition to The Pies?? The other thing to note is 7 of the bottom 8 teams are Melbourne teams and 5 of the top 8 are interstate teams.

EDIT; Results changed - incorrect info.

Sceptical as it seems I think that this just shows that AA and Brownlow are effected highly by media and public perception. If you have had good years previously you are likely to draw more attention hence poll higher.

You've now got ammo for those who insist that the umpires love the Pies. Those stats are pretty interesting though. One of the things which Geelong prides itself on is its evenness. 3 players dominated for us... Interesting.

You may wanna re check your stats mate
22 rounds x 6 votes given per game = 132 maximum votes a team can get
Bit of shonky math there

Its quite simply really. Collingwoods highest winning margin for the year was 33 points against Brisbane at the Gabba. Which is quite remarkable considering we technically finished 3rd following Kangaroos poor showing in their Prelimanary. Our average winning margin was 19 points. Just over 3 goals. Basically meaning that losing sides had a fair chance of polling votes against us. Especially in games where we were down or the game was still in the balance at 3/4 time.

3/4 time margins eg.

Rd 1. Kangaroos -27
Rd 3. Richmond Even
Rd 5. Essendon + 12
Rd 7. Carlton +1
Rd 8. Brisbane + 9
Rd 14. St Kilda - 19
Rd 18. Carlton - 6
Rd 20. Melbourne + 12

Wouldn't sweat it. Brownlow really is a midfielders award nearly exclusively now days. Hence your 3 midfield runners polled really well. Your eveness includes Egan (Darren Glass hardly has a brownlow vote all career and is the best full back of the last 3 years.) Scarlett etc etc etc. As for fowards look at the times Riewoldt Treadrea and Pavlich have been favourites and look how they have polled Mooney as good as he is isn't in there league hence did not poll all that well
