If you wanted McGinnity to play a similar role to Crowley (pretty much totally negative), I can see him doing this. If you wanted him to play the role like Scott Selwood, Carrazzo, van Berlo and a few other run with players who also get the ball and use it reasonably well (not elite), then he'll have to improve a fair bit since I don't him as being capable of doing this right now.
I'm also not convinced that he could replicate his defensive inside-50 efforts in the midfield. The latter requires a much bigger tank and more speed to close down chases. I expect that the preseason will be used to condition him one way or the other though, and he's also a handy sub since he has experience in both defense and forward roles.
