quick question for all you bruce nuts..
on his studio albums, even if the E Street Band is playing, he's credited just as "Bruce Springsteen"
why is this? contract thing..?

have always wondered..

They get credit for the instruments they have played/any part of any songs they have written.

I believe it is because when he signed with Columbia, it was just Bruce Springsteen. Just like how he takes the biggest cut on tours, he is the brains behind the outfit.

There'll be no Brisbane 2, but there would still be plenty of tickets they haven't dropped for the show. Just booked my flight over to Auckland for the two shows there. No return date ftw. :thumbsu:

Yeah as Cruyff14 mentioned - it's a contractual thing.

All his live releases are credited to Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band though.

Another thing is that sometimes the band aren't really on the album that much. Danny Federici was only credited with playing on 'Born to Run' (the song), while Roy Bittan handled everything else keys-wise from that album.

Bruce's first album had non-band members playing on tracks, while hardly any of the band appeared on Tunnel of Love even though the subsequent tour was an E Street Band tour.

I guess the only full E Street band albums have been The Wild, the Innocent... (aka the greatest album ever made), Darkness on the Edge of Town, The River, and Born in the USA.

Even latter-day albums such as The Rising, and Magic (uggh), may have had the band members playing on them, but such was the location of each of the members, most of their parts were recorded separately from the base tracks, whereas Garry Tallent and Roy Bittan don't even appear on Wrecking Ball.

I'm coming back from Auckland a few days after the last gig. I think after this tour I'll be a bit tired...

Spewing. I paid AU$194 for my flight to Auckland, Air NZ really doesn't like it when you have checked baggage. Although I'm not complaining about the NZ$870 flight to San Fran a few days after the gigs.

Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland is relatively in the sticks, 25 mins from the CBD. Thankfully their bus network is pretty good (I've been there before) but no idea how I'll go getting back to the CBD afterwards. Hopefully they put extra shuttles and trains on after the gigs.

With the BS queuing system for the pit, can I assume the line for the Sunday show will start outside the stadium mmediately after the Saturday show? Might just camp out Saturday night.

I've sussed out a train to get me to/from Auckland CBD and Mt Smart Stadium.

People seen this? Amazing.

Bruce also wrote a letter to his fans.

I was talking about Thunder Road to a friend (whom I am surprised both likes and knows it), and it made me go back and read what I wrote about it.

It truly is an epic song. Unbelievably amazing from start to finish. Here's what I initially wrote...

Is there a better intro to an album than Born To Run? Seriously. As soon as you start playing Born To Run you are greeted with that lovely harmonica intro. The sound of youth, the sounds of freedom and innocence rings through your speakers, the sound of…. Brilliance.

And then you’re treated to the spectacle that is Thunder Road. Considered by many Bruce fans as his greatest song, and you can’t really argue much why it wouldn’t be (ironic I know it being at number 16), but it is really an amazing song.

I first remember hearing it on the Barcelona DVD (it closes that concert), it grabbed me straight away. Everything about it was great, I really couldn’t fault it. Then over the years it grew more and more on me and I can’t help but wonder how does someone at the age of 24 come up with something like this? Many artists of today would be honoured to have written anything half as good, but to Bruce, it’s just another amazing song in a long list of songs that have lyrics that only a few could match.

The lyrics, the music, the Roy Orbison reference, the live versions where the crowd sing the end of the first verse, the piano to carry it along, the sax solo. Where does Thunder Road fail to deliver? It doesn’t. I feel terrible having it so low, but it’s just personal taste and I just happen to like other songs more. Not taking away anything from Thunder Road, it is the perfect song to open or end an encore.

Thunder Road takes you on a ride that makes you feel anything is possible. It makes you believe that you can reach the unthinkable, do the impossible, reach for the stars and conquer the difficult things in life. It exudes everything that a Bruce fan feels not only hearing this song, but being at his concert. I have tears in my eyes as I write this because it is that ****ing good.

“It’s a town full of losers and we’re pulling out here to win”

Seriously, does that not make you feel like anything is possible? Then that sax solo just takes you into other worlds until the song ends and you revel in its sheer beauty and magnificence.

I’d list the classic lines in the song, but I’d have to list every line of the song. It is THAT good.

In whatever form, Thunder Road is perfect.

Thunder Road, ladies and gentlemen, is Bruce Springsteen near his absolute best.

Then after that 5 minutes you wonder if Born To Run can get better after setting the bar so high. Hard to believe. But it happens.

Here ya go paddy18, know how much you love this. The Irish crowd are exceptional!

Love the booming sax solo too!

Unreal!! I'm gonna be gutted if we don't get to see this at least once in any the 4 gigs that I'm going to next year.

The key change and that last verse....gets me every time.
