Interview with The Boss from The Guardian prior to the release of Wrecking Ball.

Bruce Springsteen: 'What was done to my country was un-American'
The Boss explains why there is a critical, questioning and angry patriotism at the heart of his new album Wrecking Ball

At a Paris press conference on Thursday night, Bruce Springsteen was asked whether he was advocating an armed uprising in America. He laughed at the idea, but that the question was even posed at all gives you some idea of the fury of his new album Wrecking Ball.

Indeed, it is as angry a cry from the belly of a wounded America as has been heard since the dustbowl and Woody Guthrie, a thundering blow of New Jersey pig iron down on the heads of Wall Street and all who have sold his country down the swanny. Springsteen has gone to the great American canon for ammunition, borrowing from folk, civil war anthems, Irish rebel songs and gospel. The result is a howl of pain and disbelief as visceral as anything he has ever produced, that segues into a search for redemption: "Hold tight to your anger/ And don't fall to your fears … Bring on your wrecking ball."

ok so yeah pretty solid LP

comparing to the last few.. not as grand as Working on a dream and not as crafty and instantly catchy as magic.

It rolls along nicely.. there is some different sorta sounds in there but its mainly a sorta modern soul kinda album, that's the running theme musically. i wouldn't say its this Angry rock album or anything, far from it. its fairly downbeat until Wrecking Ball (the song)

Death to my hometown has a pogues feel to it, like that one. plenty of guests so it does feel like a bruce and friends show. There is even a rap on it...but don't worry its done in a tasteful way, he aint doing a Sting.

Solid on first listen. but it didn't blow me away.

It's a good album, but not great. It's not BToR jaw dropping, but it's not cringeworthy either. I personally don't think it's as good as The Rising or Magic, but I still like it.

This Depression was the highlight for me.

Will need a few more listens before I decide where it ranks.

Favorites after initial listen - Land of Hope and Dreams, Jack of All Trades, Shackled and Drawn, Easy Money

Yeah, Easy Money is a good track, very catchy. I like Shackled and Draw as well. We Take Care Of Our Own is also very good imo.

The rap in Rocky Ground is something different, I thought it worked.

The live versions of WB and LOHAD are better than these, but between these two, LOHAD sounds better in the studio than WB.

I don't know if I'd even call it a rap. It's ok, though.

Had a few more listens to This Depression and you are right, it's a highlight.

This Depression is the best track for me.

My least favourite would probably be Jack Of All Trades. Not saying I hate it, I just like it the least.

Wrecking Ball and LOHAD are better live but still decent in the studio.

It's a pretty solid album in fact, if this was recorded sounding like an E-Street Band record, I have no doubt it would be in his top 3.
