Yeah sorry. Watching so much American Idol, I tend to look for pitchy moments and mentally mark down accordingly. Just noticed the one though.

Wouldn't a Springsteen night on AI be interesting? Of course you would only do it in the final few weeks as we don't want to chop any of his songs up into a two minute spot.
I keep praying for it, but I reckon they would mess it up horribly.

I reckon Phil would have done him perfectly, has that husky voice to match Bruce.

Anybody ever seen these cover albums

Hey, RussellEbertHandball...

Yeah - I know them

Back in the day I used to collect Uncut magazine monthly and horde the free CDs that came with each issue (same goes for Mojo Magazine).

There were two different issues, different covers with different CDs. My mate got one of them, I got the other (the one with Grant McLennan's 'If I Should Fall Behind' on it).

Surprisingly good CD, I have to admit. Not that I've got it any more. Ditched all of them when I moved house a few years ago. I did, however have them in my iTunes library recently... but that was until I had a hard drive crash.

From memory - the versions of 'Reason to Believe' (anything by Townes Van Zandt is brilliant), 'Tougher Than the Rest' (one of his underrated classics), 'Fire' and 'Jackson Cage' were all quite good. The Badly Drawn Boy (yeah, this was back when he was an actual thing and he was always spouting his Springsteen fanboy-dom) version of 'Thunder Road' was utter shite though.

Not really many of the big hits or popular songs there.

To me, that's a good thing. Springsteen, like Neil Young, has made a career out of performing songs that really can't be performed by anyone else. If you ever feel the need to hear Suzi Quatro sing 'Born to Run', you'd agree with me. Springsteen's hit songs, or most iconic songs, are pretty much uncoverable, and if someone does try to cover the songs, they normally fail miserably.

There's always exceptions to the rule though. I'm a big fan of Bowie's version of 'It's Hard to Be a Saint in the City' (not so much of his 'Growin' Up' cover though), and Steve Earle's 'State Trooper' (on one of the CDs above) is fantastic.

It will be here before you know it. My daughter is thinking about pulling out but I have a work colleague who would kill to hand over his money and take the ticket. I'm probably better off taking people who will appreciate it for the religious experience it is.

Looking forward to the whole ensemble to be honest. They just bounce and feed off each other so well. So many moving parts that create an energy seldom seen.

The rumours are true.

Steve will NOT be joining the band in Australia due to filming commitments. Replaced by Tom Morello.

I like Morello, but I have very mixed feelings on this one. I am disappointed.

Oh for ****'s sake. He was out of the band in 85 when I saw them and now he isn't coming for this one. I was really looking forward to the dynamic. Disappointed. As said, no Clarence and no Steve really takes away an onstage foil that makes these concerts.

Does this mean Bobby Jean will be played at every show? If so, then **** yeah. Also, Morello on Tom Joad is awesome. Every show plz.

Agreed it will seem different without the on-stage banter between Bruce and Steve.

No Miami Steve? That is disappointing, he's such an integral part of E-Street.

Meanwhile I've been watching the tennis checking out my seats. :p

Trying to put a positive spin on this no Stevie business - Bruce will be on fire regardless and if we'd been told 12 months ago we could have half the e street band doing a massive tour we'd have jumped at the chance.

Am slightly annoyed at being told at this point in time tho. No doubt they would have known before tix went on sale. Not that it would have effected my plans haha

Let's be honest, Steve plays almost no crucial guitar parts on stage. He's there for nostalgic reasons and for the camera to focus on him during Bobby Jean. The sound really doesn't need his endless strumming.
