As you said Cruyff14 its a fun catchy song but it ranks a long way belong many of the other pop songs he has written. Off the top of my head its behind Out in the Street, Hungry Heart, Two Hearts, Ramrod, Crush on You, I'm a Rocker, Sherry Darling, and that's just from the River let alone the BIUSA pop songs and all the other albums.

Where does a song like Darlington County rate for people? Only heard it this year, I think it's great. Obviously not an epic by any means, but it's fun, catchy, and has this feel good thing about it. Been playing it a lot lately.

It's on my shower song list. ;) One of those twangy feel-good almost rockabilly sing-along songs like Cadillac Ranch.

Driving out of Darlington County
I seen the glory of the coming of the Lord
Driving out of Darlington County
Seen Wayne handcuffed to the bumper of a state trooper's Ford.

Not a classic but it's fun and catchy - Gotta love it. :thumbsu:

Stevie is a god. He's the drunken angel on Bruce's shoulder that Bruce should listen to more often. Without the fun side of things, I don't think I'd love Springsteen as much as I do.

Sure, songs like 'Sherry Darling' are never going to set the world on fire, but they're needed as much as 'Thunder Road' (can't believe I just said that).

For those of you that are keen here is the email I sent my old man this morning about the night.

I'm not a religious man but I now know the feeling that hardcore christians get when they go and worship.
What a show/night/band. Mind boggling. It's 10am the following morning and I'm still buzzing. I had a couple next to me around your age (55ish) and because I was on my own and had over an hour to kill I just started chatting to them and we ended up talking right until they came on. They were really nice, from Oakland and like myself it was their first time. Had a good chat about the government over here and back home and how the rich keep getting richer, you know typical pre Springsteen chat. Overheard all the conversations between Bruce diehards lining up beforehand and they really are a dedicated bunch. "So it's 15 for me tonight, and 8 for you?" . But did they come all the way from Australia? (I did see a guy in a North Melbourne jacket so there was someone else like me!).
That setlist! I'm really sorry! Wowee. Opening with LOHAD was great and kicked the night off and then straight into Cover Me got the vocal cords loose. Then that familiar rough guitar sound and I got goosebumbs. ADAM!!!!! All smack bang after another, literally just a '1,2,3,4' in between each one. Something in the Night surprised me too (should it have?) and then the fun sing along of Hungry Heart lightened the mood. The Wrecking Ball trio, the title track the standout there.
Then the sadness. My City of Ruin he spoke for a while about Asbury Park and it was cool and then shone a spotlight on where the big man would be and it all got a bit emotional. But that's a hell of a song and I'm glad he drags it out and talks about it. Then my dancing shoes were on with E STREET SHUFFLE!!!!! Have you seen that live? Because I have ;)
He then goes for his long walks into the crowd to grab requests. One was "Dance with a Hungarian Lady" so he brought her out and it was pretty funny as they danced to Money Down. The other 3 requests were Ties That Bind, I'm Goin' Down (A favourite of mine! Everyone around me heard me yell "MY KISSES USED TO TURN YOU INSIDE AND OUT". Such a great song) and Devils and Dusk, which they've only played twice before he said.
Because the Night was great and I was hoping he'd do the Night trio and play Spirit but bursting into SHE'S THE ONE was just amazing. Lost it when it started. All the new material held up really well live, Shackled and Hometown especially. Then your favourite, Sunny Day! A little girl sung it at the end and then ended by saying "hit it E-Street band!'. Cute. Ok Raise Your Hand? Great live tune. I don't really know it but it was good. The Rising, yeah great but I was feeling a bit drained now and needed a pep up...
Enter Max. BADLANDS!!!!! AHHHHH! My elbow is sore from the fist pumping in that song alone. Then the lights go black and I just hear a harmonica. Life complete.
Encore. Wow. Kitty's Back? Really Bruce? This showed just how brilliant they are. It went for about 15 minutes and had a long solo where each member jams for a while and then seamlessly back into the vocals. Born to Run followed and that was ok.......sorry what I meant to say was BORN TO RUN was next and OH MY GOD!!!!! He told us earlier in the night that they'd play it when he picked up requests and someone yelled at him to play it so I knew it was coming. Dancing in the Dark was a great addition and although I'm not the biggest fan it was a lot of fun live. Then Santa Claus and I thought that was it. I was so tired by this point and had the best night I was happy to leave it at that...
"ONE MORE BAY AREA!!!!!!"
10TH AVENUE!!!! Ok now this was emotional. The Big Man part is really staggering live. A fantastic finale though. What a night.
Little things:
- Hearing people after the show at the BART say he was way more interactive tonight than normal.
- Seated ticket? Ha. Good one. Stood the entire time as did everyone else.
- I got told by 2 ladies across the aisle that I was fantastic or something. They loved me because I was dancing and singing and just going nuts. Also I was alone and in the younger bracket there and I think maybe some people took a photo or two of me. Not that I cared. The joys of going to a show by yourself in a different country is you can really just enjoy yourself.
- I filmed some stuff to show you but I wasn't an annoying person. LOHAD, Hungry Heart, Sunny Day (the girl singing), I'm Goin' Down, Thunder Road. A treat for you in 4 months.
- He crowd surfed during Hungry Heart which was cool.
- Clarence's nephew is my new favourite member.
