Yeah why didn't you have that it in your top 61!!! :D Hope you are bashing out the Live in NYC version.

Great photo's by the way. Your camera is a lot better than mine. Mine takes forever to click and most are blurry as a result, as neither Bruce or band members stay still.
Yeah not sure really, last night it won me over. I mean I liked it, but it was just another song. Now it's climbing up the rankings.

Spirit is ****ing sick, would love to hear it again.

Haha, from my phone man.

Its the energy in the song with the band and when he growls out lines like I'LL BE WAITING FOR YOU then the big man's sax kicks in and later on MEET ME OUT IN THE STREET, Little girl TONIGHT, and then the whoa ho kicks in and the full band as well, and it goes on and on. That wasn't there on the studio version.

I liked it on the River but there were lots of other pop songs on there I liked more - Sherry, Darling, Hungry Heart, Two Hearts, Cadillac Ranch, You Can Look - But You Better Not Touch.

But it was the version on Live in NYC that it started racing up the ladder for me

Yeah when you posted about Darlington County a few months ago i said it was ok. But as a result I dug it up and played it a bit after that reminded myself that it was a fun song with catchy hooks. Working on a Highway and Darlington County back to back last Friday night in Sydney were sensational and the pit was just roaring as a result. Well after the somberness of The River it was Pay Me My Money Down followed by the above two that sent things into overdrive.

Cruyff14 mentioned the little tacker on stage, that was just gorgeous. The little guy would've been all of 4 or 5yo, tiny little kid with a black tee with Springsteen emblazoned across it. I think Bruce found him in the pit and had him up on stage to sing along to Waitin' on a Sunny Day. The first time Bruce tried to get him to sing into the microphone he looked just gobsmacked. The crowd was cheering 'Come on you can do it' and then the second time in a tiny little voice the kid squeezed the words out and everyone cheered and IIRC he had another go and was even better. Bruce hoisted him up on his shoulders while the band played and the crowd went nuts. It was such a touching moment, something the kid will never forget. How do you capture the emotion around moments like that in a post?

Made my top 10 Bruce shower songs list :D

The first two shows I saw he had 2 girls about 10-12 years old, the one in Brisbane had a very good voice. The next two shows he had boys, Wednesday night about 12 the first one who stuffed up then on Friday a 9 or 10 year old who was really shy and hardly got the words out. Bruce ended up hoisting him on his right shoulder and giving him the microphone and the crowd encouraged him.

I just couldn't imagine Bob Dylan or Neil Young doing that!

I think he went from The River into Prove It last night. The River was just flawless, his falsetto is amazing during The River, and to go straight into the awesomeness of Prove It '78 is just crazy. The guitar is so raw and brutal it is a joy to behold.

All correct. He was awe struck. But it was great to see, the people around me in the pit did a collective awwwww, and laugh during it but were rapt when he got going. A great moment at the show.

Just wow.

Hard to believe the man is 63 when you see the energy he put in to the show last night. He really pushed himself too, was buggered toward the end. The whole of the band were just fantastic and I'm glad they all had the opportunity rip out a solo or two.

Be fair to say I'm not the hardcore fan many people in this thread are - I basically bought a ticket thinking it was a 'must see' gig. A month's listening to the back catalogue culminating in the awesomeness of last night leaves me wondering why it took me so long!!!!!

Interesting different people's takes on the songs - I really liked the performace of the River last night. Other faves probably WOASD, Wrecking Ball, Death to Our Hometown.

...oh and Tom's and Bruce's guitar playing during Tom Joad - wow that was really special. Perhaps that was my favourite of the night.

Russel Ebert, you hit the nail on the head re it being difficult to show in this forum just how well he worked the crowd. The most engaging performer I've ever seen. He's been doing this every other day for years and doesn't look for a minute like it's become a chore one little bit.

My only criticism was he sounded like a pom when he tried to say 'arse' in an Aussie accent. :p

Glad you enjoyed it, welcome to the Bruce brethren. ;)

He has no right at 63 to be that fit and energetic. It just makes it harder for the rest of us who are still climbing that particular mountain!

And the Tom Joad virtual duet with Tom Morello was unbelievable epic sensational, I can't find the superlatives. I was a bit prepared by the youtube clip I posted earlier in the thread but live with the pair of them ripping out a duelling guitars combo pack ... it was just breathtaking. In fact it sucked the oxygen out of you like one of those vacuum seal packs.

Cruyff14 you will confirm that Bruce said next time he comes out to tour it won't be so long. Fingers crossed, I thought this would be the last time he would tour Australia, but maybe, just maybe ...

I doubt he'll be back, but you don't know. Everyone has gone nuts here and I think him and the band are enjoying their time here, so it is possible. He is playing sold out shows repeatedly and people are just going berserk. We might be in with another shot!

Just looking through Sean Sennett's review of Sydney night #3 and he made the same promise there. Keep those fingers and toes crossed.

Unbelieveable show.

I thought the setlist was absolutely perfect for the night. It was apparent very early on that everybody was there for a good time, including the band. As much as I love them (and it pains me to say this), songs such as Backstreets, Incident, Racing, LITF and even Thunder Road or Jungleland just would not have fitted in with the whole mood of the place last night. For those who are lucky enough to be attending multiple shows here in Vic, there's no doubt that we will get to see and hear these songs at some stage over the next week. However, I'm just rapt with what was delivered to us last night. It's was freakin' unreal......and also LOUD!! Couldn't hear a thing for an hour or two after the gig and my ears were still ringing up until an hour or so ago.

Had a great seat in the second row on the aisle just in front of the stage on Tom's side. I was taken aback when the guy who was sitting next to told me that he had bought his ticket on a whim at 3pm yesterday from the Ticketek site, and so had the bloke beside him.

Felt a little bit jealous looking down at you blokes in the pit, but there also seemed to be a helluva lot of folks that may have had a bit trouble seeing too much, so I was happy enough with where I was. I'm back in much the same spot on Wednesday, but level with the front of the stage. I'm little bit further back tomorrow night as I'm sitting with my brother who bought those tix, but at least I'll get a little different perspective.

My highlights from last night:

Started about 45 minutes before Bruce came on stage when I took my seat and was very pleasantly surprised to hear the Gaslight Anthem pumping through the speakers at Rod Laver Arena. Told the bloke beside just how good they were and I think I managed to convert him by the end of Miles Davis and the Cool.

Seeds. I've been a massive, massive fan of this song since I first heard it on the Live 75-85 set and it was absolute treat to see it performed live. It really should have been on BITUSA. I lost my voice and sprayed saliva all over the place whilst belting this out...it's a truly "angry" song.

LOHAD. My personal favourite of the whole night. Shed a tear at the end of this one. I've always loved the versions with the "People Get Ready" ending with Bruce yelling "Let me See Your Hands". The Live in Barcelona DVd version is my favourite, but last night wasn't far behind. To look around the arena and see 18,000 people with their arms in air, wiggling their fingers....a sight to behold and it dead set took me over the top.

Ghost of Tom Joad. As mentioned by a previous poster, the Youtube version does not do this justice. The last minute of this, even the last 20 seconds when Tom is jumping up and down....incredible!

I was just stoked that people didn't sit down after Pay Me. It felt like everybody was just waiting for the opportunity to get up on their feet and most didn't need to be asked twice. I had an ex-St Kilda footballer sittiing behind me and he didn't get off his feet or uncross his arms all night, although a small smile came across his face when the little fella was hauled up stage to sing the Waitin' chorus.

Anyway, roll on tomorrow night. What signs are any of you guys taking on Wednesday night so I can pick you out and maybe come down and say Hi after the show?

Hoping for Backstreets and Incident tomorrow night.

One question - where's Patti this tour?

Last nights Melbourne show was beyond words, I can't write about it yet.

At home with the kids. The youngest one still lives at home and goes to high school, probably is in his final year. His daughter is an equestrian rider not sure if she still lives at home. The oldest is 22 or 23 so he can look after himself. Think he is at Uni in Boston.
