Re: MacAvaney's total Essendon bias

He has always been bad, but this season it has gotten worse. Something has to give, this is driving me to distraction. Forget about Eddie McGuire's Collingwood bias, at least he was professional enough to give a bit the other way. Did anyone else notice how disappointed and deadpan Bruce was when calling the Doggies goals in the last quarter last night?

"Oh, and he puts it through" or "..and the Dogs have sealed it"

Compared with the more typical Bruce verbal ejaculation when Essendon had their run going earlier:

"Davey! Davey!!! DAVEY!!!! HE PUTS IT THROUGH!!! HE'S CLEVER!! HE'S SPECIAL!!!"

I can't give you verbatim quotes, I don't have that good a memory and I don't have a copy of the game.
What I do have is an over-riding impression:

Bruce = Total Essendon Fanboy

Make him sit in the corner and have a think about it, channel 7. He is woeful at the moment.

I think Bruce was just a little deflated by the fact that the contest was over.... i didn't find his commentary too bad last night

Bruce goes for Adelaide.

I have no idea about how the call went as i was at the game but isn't if fair to assume that any caller would have got alot more excited when Davey goaled? And it was at a time when Essendon was on fire and the crowd was at it's loudest. I am also sure that any caller would be a little more subdued once the game is done and dusted. Seems pretty obvious to me.

Re: MacAvaney's total Essendon bias

I love his commentary, and I think he called the match fair all night...
I think he just got a little excited when Davey, Lovett & Ryder got the ball, but who wouldn't get excited when great talent is on show..?!! ;)

Re: MacAvaney's total Essendon bias

The OP is spot on here. When the dogs finally put through a few goals to seal the match, it was almost as if we were watching a funeral. Complete turnaround from the Quarter before where I almost had to reach for the mute button due to the cringe factor in over-excitement levels.

Re: MacAvaney's total Essendon bias

I thought that the comments reflected the state of the game, when the Dons got on top it was game on, when the Dogs took over, the heat went right out of the game. He would have sounded like an idiot going OTT for a sealing goal midway through the last quarter.

Sounds like you are describing the atmosphere at the ground in the final term.

Re: MacAvaney's total Essendon bias

It's more about Bruce's "man crush" on Sheedy & Hird than anything else... it was like that for years...

Sheeds & Hird are gone now but the romance definately continues...

Can't have been as bad as Quarterbrain last week during the Hawthorn match...

Re: MacAvaney's total Essendon bias

Still a loss & we never thought we are good enough to beat the Cats, unlike yourselves. :p

To be honest, if we kept it under 10 goals I consider that somewhat of a win. We aren't playing as a team yet - and you need to be able to share the load to beat a team like Geelong.

Re: MacAvaney's total Essendon bias

Bruce's love for the bombers was showing through ...it was embarrassing listening to him cream his pants every single bombers goal ..whereas the complete opposite when the Doggies scored . Him and Ox made for a terrible call .

Re: MacAvaney's total Essendon bias

I didn't hear the call as I was at the game but Bruce seems to really like the indigenous players(think Andrew McLeod or Wanganeen) and as Essendon have a number of them he is bound to get excited.

And yet, when Josh Hill kicked a goal...."hmmm and he puts it though...<crickets chirping>"

Re: MacAvaney's total Essendon bias

It's not particularly surprising the commentary dropped in excitement in the last term; the entire ground did.

It was a big Essendon majority last night, and it was clear as day we'd run out of legs. I wouldn't have said the Bulldogs lifted, it was more so that we'd run out of legs.

The crowd was flat, and that passed on to the commentary.

The atmosphere in the 3rd quarter was great, and it only fits the trend that there was high excitement in the commentary.

Spot on. I didn't want to say too much about this but it seems I wasn't imagining it last night. I thought the whole commentary team was very much barracking for Essendon. Bruce is just embarrassing to listen to. In the first quarter the dogs were playing some quite nice footy themselves but it seems Bruce had saved up his tantra multiple orgasms for when the Dons started to play well.

I mentioned in another thread how bad I think c7 is on a whole. The camera work is deplorable. Last night instead of showing a particular ball up we had to watch footage of Lloyd sitting in the coach's box meanwhile you didn't know what was happening in the play. this happened in frequently last night in similar situations. I also remember the camera moving from Welsh as he was running into goal onto a close up of a person in the crowd thus we missed the ball actually being kicked through. They either focus too close or they are too far away. They just suck  That Barb woman who follows Carlton could hold her own as a boundary rider when compared to the peanut that's currently doing it.

Before anyone says, why didn't you just turn the sound down? I couldn't as I was watching it at somebody's house.

Thanks guys I feel better now :thumbsu:

How dare you use facts. There's clearly pro-Essendon bias, and you have no right to refute them using your so-called "facts". This is Bay 13, not the main board remember.

Oh.

Re: MacAvaney's total Essendon bias

There were probably many factors in play but Bruce was definately going crazy when Essendon goaled and seemed almost disappointed when the dogs goaled. Something to do with Watson perhaps?

Although I remember Bruce commentating the Lions/Essendon GF and he seemed fairly impartial.

Re: MacAvaney's total Essendon bias

Does anyone remember 2000? At this time Essendon were sponsored by channel seven, meanwhile Collingwood were lead by the soon to be ceo of channel 9.

Bruce's pro Essendon commentary is NOTHING new. He is a disgrace. But put two and two together please it isn't hard. When Essendon were sponsored by seven it was worse than it even is now. Just listen to c Collingwood game. The same sort of dissapointment that is attributed to the doggies in the last quarter is exactly the same sort of emotion he shows to COllingwood. Remembering peoples, channel 9's influence at COllingwood.

Come on peoples lets get behind this and make this little weed accountable. He is an absolute disgrace.
