Recommitted Bryce Gibbs [out of contract 2021]

Salary aside, it's looking like quite an even trade at this point.

Let’s not forget that Carlton gave us their 2018 second pick which was pick 19. Adelaide traded that pick 19 to GWS for pick 30 (Will Hamill) and Carlton’s second round pick this year. So Adelaide could get themselves a Liam Stocker out of it yet too

I remember Gibbs having a few really good games in 2014, that Geelong game where he destroyed Selwood really comes to mind.

I would consider him up on the GC for the next 2 years, we need midfield depth really bad, and he is a decent ball user. However, would want Adelaide to cover some of his wages.

He may want to fight it out at the Crows but he would easily be in the 22 for us.

Not a bad idea, could package him up with Greenwood.

If we cover a lot of his wages we would want a decent pick (or visa versa).

Would be keen for a trade along the lines of
Dogs Give pick 25 and 40
Crows give pick 20 and 29 aswell as Gibbs + his massive salary
Lol, doubt the AFL would allow the Crows to trade Gibbs for negative value. We got investigated for trading Tippett for a 2nd rounder, so we would be smashed for giving away picks & Gibbs.

The real question is why did Adelaide want him to begin with?

Anyone else remember clueless Carlton saying the Crows wouldv'e won the premiership if they coughed up earlier?

Clueless Carlton? Is that the Carlton that got not only another year out of a valuable, senior body on their young list but extracted absolutely max value from the deal when he was traded 12 months later, especially for a nearing 30 year old?

Adelaide wanted him because they considered themselves right in their premiership window and Gibbs was a consistent and durable A grade midfielder who wanted to head back to SA (not all that common). It's obviously gone sour for them since on both fronts, but that's why...

Clubs should be able to do this. It works well enough in US sports. You should be able to do something like Port did with Lobbe, get a token really late pick in and get at least some of his salary off the books.

From what i understand you can do this. Dan Hannebury is another example. The Kurt Tippett trade was far different to this Gibbs scenario.

Tippett was the clubs highest played player, 25 years of age, coming off a career year, wasn't playing reserves and was worth far more than a second round pick. He was also paid 200K outside the salary cap.

Gibbs is 30 years old, and is playing most of the current season in the SANFL.
