Traded Bryce Gibbs - Pt. 2 - [traded to Adelaide]

If you condense it all together, it's basically this

OUT: Lever & Cameron
IN: Gibbs & 2018 First Round Pick
probably a bit more than that TBH. The crows also moved up 4 places in this years 1st round (from 16 to 12) and in addition to next years extra 1st round pick, the Carlton 2nd round pick could be very close to the end of the 1st round so it could be 3 picks at 20 or under if Carlton have another development year and finish near the bottom - therefore Reidy needs the congratulations for a successful trade period

Nope. Gibbs wouldn't have been the difference on GF day so it's ridiculous to state otherwise.
Yep agree on this point ,100+ pts is a total carve up of a TEAM full of bruise free players.
I dont support either GF team but was barracking for the Crows. Was absolutey shocked at what they served up . Gibbs aint gunna change that.

Our starting 22 is a top 4
Brown Talia Doedee
Laird Hartigan Kelly

Sloane Gibbs Atkins
Jacobs M.Crouch B.Crouch
Lynch Walker Douglas
Betts Jenkins McGovern
Greenwood Milera Seedsman
Gibson

Depth:
Hampton, Knight, Keath, Mackay, Galluci, Otten
Backline looks very shaky now and inexperienced, not too many elite ball users, Doedee is a complete unknown. Top 4 is no certainty.

That'a a ridiculous analogy, and defeats the purpose of drafting him now. Gibbs would have added a diff dimension to Adelaide in 2017 just as Prestia did to Richmond. Much harder to tag Sloane etc etc etc.

You can come up with all the rationale you like, but as everything has turned out, Adelaide will forever ask themselves "if only" about 2017.

It's as simple as that. Gibbs was there for the taking. Reid blew it.
The reason the crows lost the grand final was that they did not mentally prepare for richmond like they should have and got outcoached. They had flogged GWS and then Geelong in the prelim and thought they only need turn up and it would all just click. Unfortunately being off in terms of their pressure which they had brought in the qualifying and prelim finals allowed richmond to dictate terms on the day and they were worthy winners. Gibbs would not have been the difference on the day but he will certainly add to the team.

Absolutely no certainty as no team is at this time of year. I think that richard douglas will end up being the smith replacement as he uses the ball well and is very experienced. Doedee has developed well at SANFL level and now that the guy that was holding the intercept defender spot is gone, he gets his chance to make it his own. Time will tell

That backline actually looks better than it did this year. Smith aside (which remember, went down to injury- a lot of Carlton posters are adding him to their argument as if he has left the club), I think that Adelaide will be more balanced with Doedee/Keath in the team.

Well.. a lot of this certainly sounds nice.. but not necessarily factual.

The trade is essentially Pick 10 and a few Pick downgrades (and given the strength of the 2018 draft could be argued this picks are equal or in Adelaides favour). If you look at it this way, the value is far less than what was requested last year.

Pick 10, Pick 16 (2017), Pick 36 (2018)
For
Gibbs, Pick 20 (2018), Pick 38 (2018)

2018 Pick 20 >> 2017 Pick 16?

So pick 10 is the probable value when taking into account the value of the two draft pools. It's overs but it's no where near the value of last years request.

My opinion this was the eventual trade as keep in mind Picks from Crows went towards SOS’ plan for 2017 and 2018

You see it as,
Blues get; Picks 10, 16, 73, Crows 2018 2r
Crows get; Bryce Gibbs, 77, Blues 2018 2r & 3r

I see it as

Blues get; Picks 10, 30, 73, Matthew Kennedy, Crows 2018 Second Rd & Bulldogs 2018 2r

Off course Blues added Pick 40 to that but you have to look at the clearer picture and creativeness of one recruiter compared to another recruiter.

Now Silvagni got all that for trading for Bryce Gibbs, Pick 77 a meaningless pick
and 2 Picks for 2018 which SOS will use to draft Ben Silvagni, Will Hickmott & Oskar Manton

You have to agree.

The creativeness and full understanding of this trade won’t be understood until next year

Really isn’t difficult to judge it now

Long term plan looks in favour of Blues
Short term looks in favour of Crows
2018 Picks look in favour of Blues

2-1 for Blues

Would have thought that the 2018 pick swap favors the crows as your second round pick might be just after the 1st round whereas the crows second you got might be an end of second round pick and your 3rd round that was given to us could be just after the end of the 2nd round so only a slight downgrade from crows 2nd round to carltons 3rd round. The 2 x 2017 1st round picks help you this year and gibbs helps the crows this year and for a few more years (hopefully). The crows are loading up for next years supposed superdraft and for a team around the top 4 to have 2 1st round picks and hopefully a very early 2nd round pick in that draft is great work from the club

Lol, very shaky?

Still have 2 All Australians. Most of the group have played together for quite a while, but yes expect a couple of changes next year.

Existing 5 - Talia, Hartigan, Laird, Brown & Kelly.

Battle between Doedee (2nd in our Sanfl team) & Keath for 3rd tall role.

Would like to see the silky skilled Milera replace Smith as a great ball user... but we may use Douglas, Seedsman, Gibbs or even Sloane at times.

I'm not worried about our defence next year... but thanks for the concern.

Helped Blues get Matthew Kennedy. I think his the difference maker in this trade with the Crows. Should be very serviceable and expect him to play R1 and really establish himself. Don’t think will have Gibbs impact in 2018 but think might 2019 and beyond.

Knowing Picks for 2018 that Blues will get Ben Silvagni was the icing on the cake.

Matthew Kennedy, Ben Silvagni & Top 10 Pick over Bryce and few future picks

Doesn't put that part of the trade in your favor when u would of had picks to do the same anyway..

GWS and Swans do it every year. Downgrade picks as they will get 25% discounts on their academy picks.

Blues are no different Picking up later picks for next year to recruit Ben Silvagni, Oskar Manton and Will Hickmott. All these recruits will gain a 25% discount. Hope you see it diffently now and hope you now agree with how I’m explaining it

No doubt carlton maximised the compensation they got from the crows for gibbs. As a crow supporter i am not unhappy with what was given for gibbs as those 2018 picks will be very valuable to the crows and sweetened the deal big time. I have a sneaky feeling the reason the cameron trade was so delayed was that the crows did not want to give carlton picks 10 & 12 and the look reid and noble exchanged after the trade was an all knowing one..smart work again from reid?

That's all great... but FyfeToAdelaide was correct to question how you can have Carlton's picks rated better than Adelaide's in 2018.

Lore's nominal 2018 draft order has Adelaide moving up from 17th to 3rd & Carlton dropping from 3rd to 5th after 2018 trade period.

Adelaide notionally have #10, #17, #21, #37, #55 v Carlton #3, #27, #35, #70.

I know how the 25% discount works.. but also if ur second would of been before a bid on these guys you would of had a higher pick and then still been able to take your f/s also.

Pick 12 or 16 didn’t make a difference as Blues were always going to trade that pick and keep 10.

With 12 might have got something extra

Bryce is a fantastic player and will add value for Crows but fact is a professional as he was he didn’t want to be at CFC.

Matthew Kennedy and Darcy Lang will both prove to be steals in time will be good substitutes for Bryce and the bonus as mention is Ben Silvagni used for Crows 2018 Pick develop nicely in Blues team in 2019.

Blues have 3 f/s so don’t think the idea is to take anyone else in the 2018 other than our first pick

Dogs mid-late 2018 2r Pick for Ben Silvagni
Crows late 2018 2r Pick for Will Hickmott
Cats late 2018 4r Pick for Oskar Manton

Simple equation
No need to use our 2r & 3r Pick we traded to Crows

Ok simple answer

I value the later 2018 picks which SOS has traded in because Blues already know the players that will be used to draft them. These players won’t request trades and are already in the Carlton system.

Crows may have upgraded picks and got early 3r but to be honest Justin Reid has no clue yet on how his going to use these picks whether will trade them to bring players in etc etc

Silvagni already has the players and has thought ahead. I value these picks because they have already in a way been discounted and are settled. Crows just really have Picks and not the players and still a lot of unknowns behind the Picks.

Hope I answered your question

Bottom line is the Crows significantly strengthened their 2018 picks & Blues slightly weakened theirs... so your explanation that this makes the Blues better off is mumbo jumbo!

I'm sure Haggis has a good idea what he is doing with his picks, which is why we had a strategy to strengthen 2018 at the expense of 2017, given it is a super draft. We have a better recent drafting record & have a clue... despite your concerns otherwise. Facts speak for themselves when you review our respective drafting records. ;)
